What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
Last album for today as I need to get ready to go and watch Gary Numan this evening, a bit more Rush in the form of Signals, the second side of which is simply sublime and which contains Losing It which, for me, contains the best lyrics of any Rush song. Original vinyl

Kate Bush's lovely album a great match to go with this beautiful warm sunny afternoon.

Staying with the Brits for now, this guy was good, wasn't he? ....................sadly missed. ![]()
40th anniversary edition, picked up for a tenner last week. Listening to the live CD, recorded in Tanglewood in 1970:

Been a while since I've listened to this. A bootleg "electric" companion to their MTV Unplugged album recorded at the Greek Theatre in LA not long before Natalie Merchant left the band. SQ is pretty much of professional standard on this soundboard recording.
Mogwai Atomic.
I was feeling too miserable to got to Coventry on Wednesday for the concert I had tickets for and am amusing myself with the LP this afternoon. It feels like the apocalypse has arrived today.
Oh dear - I seem to have started listening to some prog for the first time. Could be another slippery slope
. These three in particular pop up on this forum a lot so I downloaded them for Tidal off-line play in the car initially and now properly at home. Rather enjoyable.

I sense Pandora's box being opened - oh, are they a prog band also ?![]()
On CD, bought on Sunday for a mere £3 from HMV. A typically thoughtful, fine-sounding Phil Schaap-curated Ellington reissue, originally released 1958.

Signing off till later with another, sadly missed, great British singer...........what's not to like?

The second part of this extended album with the very good live disc.

Yep - the live stuff is really very good indeed (as is the rest).

Great album. I particularly like the track 'Jelly Jelly'. Great stuff.
Now playing this myself at 33 1/3 rpm. It's never sounded so good, but then again my LP12 is somewhat better these days than it was when I bought this album. Currently groovin' with Jessica!

You know, to my mind there is no question that Duane was much better than Dickie, but when Dickie done good, he done REAL good. (Jessica, Ramblin' Man, Blue Sky, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed...)
Back to more familiar territory.

Well, a brief excursion into prog rock?
Don't worry, no one noticed, I think you got away with it. ![]()

I think I may be revisiting the genre at some point fairly soon ....

Of course your excursion involved fairly contemporary progressive rock. There's so much more to explore from the 70s particularly (e.g. Yes, Genesis, Caravan, King Crimson, Soft Machine...).
Started the weekend with Davis...

Now getting into the new Lang Lang...., nothing like what he has done before.....

A very smooth confection, excellent Friday after work music.. ![]()

Yes but who played the gorgeous solos on Jelly Jelly (especially the one at the end, which is a cracker!!)?

One of the finest from "The Master of Space and Time"
