What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

Genesis - Selling England By The Pound
On Vinyl

A three album collection from the Ace / Kent label................where it all began really.............highly recommended.
There's a thread running at the mo',"How do you choose your music?"...............so I'm sticking to "Various Artists" this evening..............who knows what might turn up? ![]()

Sheryl Crow - "Detours" (2008)

Ultravox - Vienna
Midge Ure days. On Vinyl

Modern trio jazz from Bandcamp.....

On original vinyl.
Why? Thought it might be a good idea and now it's playing I realise it was...

Bad Company, Bad Company, one of the great debut albums and a top group. Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

Still in a "Various Artists" frame of mind, this is a cracker...................all killer, no filler.
Actually, the whole "Rough Guide" series of albums is well worth a visit.
They serve as an introduction to genres one may be unsure of, and invariably avoid the "fast forward to the next track", so necessary with so many compilations.

Hi Steve,
Not sure whether the vinyl includes the extended version of "The Race"?
If not, get hold of the CD, if your speakers need a good pounding.
Next week too, the new album will be dropping through my letterbox, and my speakers are looking worried already.
A+ | Transcoded DSD

(1987)
Going with Steve's Yello feeling and playing the album that preceded Flag.

Led Zeppelin II. Still as powerful today as it was then.
On Vinyl
A treat to have it on my own system in high Res and not having to get it from Tidal...

The Phantom Band - "Checkmate Savage" (2009)

A great cross section of, as the title suggests, African Blues.

A gamble, but attracted to the cover! CDR from hires download (the hires is a bit of a waste as I downsample to redbook, but at small extra outlay I figure I can do at least as good a job as the studios themselves, and retain flexibility to play hires files over USB if I want)
cheers,
EJ
And what is the verdict. Was quite pleased with his earlier album ?
Bert, if you're familiar with the mazurkas you will find many (subtle) surprises in these performances. Chopin used the format to experiment, and Kolesnikov apparently enjoys doing the same, but nothing outrageous. A good selection, too, plus a well captured Steinway (in Hyperion's ultra close sound, which takes getting used to). I haven't heard any of his previous recordings.
cheers

Velvet Revolver, Contraband, because it rocks. A band I really regret never seeing live, and not will never be able to do so. Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

The new Scott Walker
What do you think, Ewe? I think it's terrific (if a bit short).
Not a great fan of his recent stuff which I think you are Kevin but do like this.

Michael Stanley - "The Job" (2014)

Chilling out to the soundscapes on this collaboration between Theo Travis and Robert Fripp. Ripped from DVDA to 24bit 48kHz FLAC.

Miller Anderson - Bluesheart
On Blue Vinyl

Still doing the "Various Artists" thing..............though, with this one, I think I can see where I'm going next.
A seriously good reggae collection, which requires the minimum of "fast forward to next track".................a great introduction to "proper" reggae.
