What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

With my early morning coffee. No-one else is up yet. Very peaceful. Nice stuff.

The late, great, Charlie. With his Quartet West.

Planning on playing some Nirvana later on but this will do nicely to get the late afternoon going.
Just been to pick up a replacement 2M Black stylus as my current one sounded 'shocking' after using it for 5 or 6 years. New one sounds awesome again, so just bought this. First listen is pretty good.

Sorry about it, Steve. Here are a few more tracks from the album:

Most enjoyable Haim thanks again for taking the time to post the additional tracks.

Original 1966 UK 12-track mono vinyl..
1. The Way You Do The Things You Do
2. My Girl
3. Ain't Too Proud To Beg
4. Don't Look Back
5. Get Ready
6. Beauty Is Only Skin Deep
7. Since I Lost My Baby
8. The Girl's Alright With Me
9. My Baby
10. It's Growing
11. I'll Be In Trouble
12. Girl (Why You Wanna Make Me Blue)

OK there are a couple of dodgy tracks on here (some of the slower vocal tracks) but there are some belters too. If you like your jazz-funk as tight as two coats of paint, give it a go.

Following in Tony's tracks from yesterday but queuing up just about 45 minutes worth from this excellent 2 hour+ album
I've just got this, having read an excellent review in yesterday's Guardian. A jazz album of country songs, played wonderfully as you'd expect. Lovely sound too, so far as I can make out with one non-functioning ear... It's one of those records that gets your toes tapping straight away. And what a great title, just right for me.

Lovely, gentle blues with a country twist, superb musicianship, nice vocals, wonderful choons, all beautifully recorded and produced.
That's why.
It's on Tidal
Pink Floyd - Animals on original 1977 vinyl, and sounding oh, so good tonight.

Blackfield, I had to get this CD from the US of A as I could not find it new in the UK. Worth the wait.

A stonewall classic album
Jethro Tull - Bursting Out - Live: original vinyl;
still enjoying it after all these years but probably due to the fact that it was - interestingly - one of my first vinyl purchase back in 1978...

Don't remember anymore how the standard version sounded, but the high Res version sounds very good....

Agreed. My favourite Live Tull album too which is not surprising since it followed "Songs from the Wood" and particularly "Heavy Horses" which were a real return to form for Tull.

Another hires remastering from the archives of Deutsche Grammophon - Giulini's Rigoletto, to this day one in my all-time top 10. As before, the master seems identical to the one used for the Originals issue - and confirms that the original recording isn't the most transparent ever. However, the sound is atmospheric and certainly not bad, and the extra bits make it sound just that more natural. When I have time, I do plan on a more thorough comparison with the first CD issue.
Giulini was lured back to opera with the promise of a top-tier cast, chorus and orchestra and plenty of rehearsal time, and the resulting performance justified the effort: expansive, dark, simply great.
Cheers

Great musician, Nigel. Have you had the chance to listen to Uberjam Deux? It's superb and if a little more jazzy.

Yes and the best live version of Trick as a Brick ever. Martin Barre is on fire.
This is only the second album of his that I have, or have heard, the other being 'Works for Me'. I'll check out your recommendation.

I have most JS albums but this passed me by, cheers.
