2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

Very pleasant start to Sunday. This has been on my Tidal favourites for a few months since Bert (I think) recommended it.
I might have already mentioned it. But this is my favorite one, while I would also strongly recommend the PIRES one.
Try Lilli Kraus!

Jackson Browne - "Standing In The Breach" (2014)
thought I'd add this loosely related video:
L-R: Rosanne Cash, John Leventhal, Marc Cohn, and Jackson Browne. Carnegie Hall, 2012. That venerable stage is barely large enough for that much talent. This line-up was presented again yesterday at the Beacon Theatre, NYC.

(2015)
Haunting atmospheric and dark this album is based on a still unresolved mystery of a mass (hiking) death in Russia, it pulls off a neat trick of being multi-layered with softer instrumentation in particular piano, alongside heavy black and doom metal. The band is Finnish and so are the limited vocals but this does not affect the presence of the album whatsoever.
Worth trying onBandcamp

1998 - Tidal...

(2001)
Just because its a great, heavy, progressive rock album.
Lovely groovy album. Haven't played this for while. CD rip.

Swans - The Glowing Man, CD1. Because I am currently addicted to the holy trilogy of The Seer/To Be Kind/The Glowing Man albums; well worth six hours of your time.

Kempf's risk-taking attitude to his performances, including studio recordings, usually triggers critics to be, well, critical - but I dare you to not be moved by this stunning performance (or overpedalled mess, depending on your vantage point).
cheers

1995 - Original vinyl...
Seminal album of the 90's.

Alfred Brendel recorded some sonatas near the end of his career, which reach a level of depth that is quite unique in these works. More recently, Kristian Bezuidenhout has completed a succesful series of all of Mozart's works for piano - his active imagination doing wonders for not just the simple early works. Pogorelich and Piemontesi have individual discs out that are also more than worth the investment. Compared to these Uchida is good company, too, certainly - these were her first recordings for Philips and her international breakthrough.

1991 - Tidal...
No particular reason for this one - apart from the stunning SQ and playing. CD rip.
