Nils new album 'Bouyancy' released earlier this month

on my second very enjoyable listen. Modernist jazz/fusion with haunting rasping trumpet, dynamic drumming & a guitar sliding here and there... much of the composition in the atmospherical style of Pink Floyd (wywh)

Very Recommended, my only complaint it it's only 20 minutes a side, i want more! : )

The free download comes with a extra track but i haven't heard it yet...

Debs

Listening now, Debs. After initial "Floydesque" doubts, this is growing on me more, every track I hear. Some very clever rhythms going on.

Hi Steve,

How does this compare in terms of SQ with the Bootmoon Brighton 1986 release? I haven't collected all the T. Tree/Leaves releases so wonder if this is one worth seeking out.

New Solo album from Amanda Shires (Jason Isbell's other half).  First listen - very nice.  Not sure how I came across this.  Tidal

2015 - vinyl...

Thanks for the reminder, Graham.

Enjoyed their first album so much I had to give this one a listen. Opening track "Acid Rain" sets off in a blaze of keyboards and doesn't let up till the end . Fantastic playing throughout.

Klyde,

do you have any other albums by Nils Petter Movlær?

My one and only other NPM album is Switch, which is also top drawer and on vinyl; however using 3 sides of a double album which is somewhat of a shortchange imo, having a picture to look at on side 4 is little consolation. Other NPM albums on vinyl seem rare or expensive. Buoyancy is presently a very affordable treat - while the price holds very reasonable.

I wish they'd do a NPM box-set of CDs, lots of calm delicate moments that would lend itself well for the CD format, not to mention better on the bank balance. Currently i'm surveying the NPM album list on individual CDs, going by the reviews on Amazon [should we really?] Baboon Moon is the one to go for, so i've just placed an order : )

Hi Steve,

I don't have the Bootmon Brighton to make a comparison. However, the SQ on this particular T. Tree concert is good to very good. Its in FLAC 16/44.1 but I think that I had to convert it from SHN. Across the 9 music tracks the bitrate varies from about 650kbps to 928kbps. There is no unwanted talking, coughing, clattering etc. from the crowd and the overall feeling is that of being in the audience very much toward the front and centre stage where it was most probably recorded. Its not their most dynamic of gigs but very enjoyable nonetheless and as far as SQ goes I have heard many worse studio albums. So I certainly recommend this one as a very good boot and one that I'm sure you would enjoy.

The only notes I have to go with the album are these:

Tangerine Dream

1986-03-29
Cologne WDR-Sendesaal, Germany

Tangerine Tree - Volume 58 - Cologne 1986

Disc 1:
01: Introduction (00:39)
02: Stratosfear (09:04)
03: Akash Deep (13:35)
04: Beneath The Waves (03:13)
05: Zen Garden (Variation) (04:59)
06: Samba Motel / Scuba Scuba (04:59)
07: Coloured Rain (03:16)
08: Piano Improvisation (04:26)
09: Dolphin Dance (09:05)
10: Cool Breeze Of Brighton (07:03)

Performed by Edgar Froese, Chris Franke and Paul Haslinger.
Produced and released by the tadream discussion list (P) 2004.
FM broadcast remastered by (Side Effects) at Studio Positivland.
Special thanks to Chris Nokes.
Cover by Maff. Tangerine Tree concept and coordination by Tangerinedreamer.
Converted to SHN by Leah Cim, using Exact Audio Copy and mkw Audio Compression Tool.
Produced by fans for fans - never sell or buy; trade freely.

I hope this helps.

Many thanks for this info, Steve. The set list is very similar to the Brighton 1986 gig which is why I asked. The Bootmoon release of that concert is one of my favourites and worth seeking out if you can find a copy.

Marillion, Clutching at Straws, an album that strikes a chord given that this evenings planned walk was changed, after a hard day, into a dominoes pizza and a couple of cold beers!  Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

Either it was a harder day than I thought or my beer is too strong because there is no Flac involved and its playing on my Rega!

A recent discovery for me and a truly amazing album. Huge talent and a tragic loss.
