What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
Richter-Haaser/Keresz/Philharmonia: Beethoven Piano Concerto No.4 1960 recording
Now almost forgotten German pianist from the 60s but I rather enjoy this big and nicely fleshed out orchestra with smooth ellegant reading. Piano tone is clear and fresh but slightly on a conservative side in expression. Haaser's playing is not ornate or nothing flashy but his firm and clear diction gives the tune a dashing and almost like a *dandy* persona. He reminds me of Pollini but with more weight and girth. Slow but expressive Andante is thoughtfully crafted.
This is a decent reissue from the 70s and shows an excellent tonal shading, weight and bell like holographic piano tone.

I've had this happily going round in the in the car for most of the week.

We had that Richter Haaser recording on mono LP at school, and I much preferred Schnabel with Sargent and Barenboim with Klemperer even as an eleven year old. I had the stereo HMV LP of Barenboim, and the school had the HMV 78s of Scnabel.
I still have both these recordings in splendid CD transfers on EMI.

More relaxing downtempo electronica from Emancipator, it fits with the snow falling this morning,
The journey of the morning continues, very tuneful jazz.....
Disc two of this box set
From the "Five Years" vinyl box set. I only have the early 90s EMI reissue (with extra tracks) to compare it to, I think I much prefer this version.
After pulling my initial review which I felt was not fair to two artists I greatly admire, my second first thoughts gravitate towards the disappointing sound quality. If this is Universal's new house sound when recording "live under studio conditions" - congested, mushy in the lower regions, no sparkle (see also: Wunder's Tchaikovsky, Zanetti's Simon Boccanegra, several of Uchida's recent discs) - I'll pass, thanks. The real studio recording of the Bartok is a lot better.

I wouldn't be amazed if this one ends up on my top ten list of the year. Very tasty trio jazz, chamber music type. On Bandcamp - have a listen if you are into this type of jazz...., you will not regret it..
Wagner, Rienzi Overture. Klemperer with the Philharmonia Orchestra.
Me listening to Wagner!
This is high class heavy metal! And Klemperer certainly encourages the orchestra to let fly!

WAV - cd rip. One of her top 3 or 4 albums IMHO.
On LP: The Noise Made By People, Broadcast. becauise it's a great album.
Violin sonatas of CPE Bach. Much more playful than his father's works.

Not their best but it's still very enjoyable Floyd without Waters.
Howard Shelley, Mendelssohn Complete Piano Music Volume 4 - Hyperion Records. 1st listen, the rich tone is the thing which immediately comes to attention.
Not actually listening to right now, but downloading... looking forward to hearing what this duo makes of the Brahms sonatas. Personal preference is Harrell/Kovacevich (EMI), but currently listening to Thedéen/Pöntinen who are also good in a straightforward but warm performance (and wonderfully recorded).
Cheers

Cold Blood's second LP, Sisyphus, on first US vinyl pressing, bought earlier this week. For me this blows [their near contemporaries] Big Brother/Joplin out of the water - the amazing Lydia Pense makes Janis seem needlessly overwrought and the band is tighter, funkier and less self-indulgent than BBATHC.
1966 UK first issue (LK4804) MONO on the deep groove red unboxed Decca label.

Very nice Bert - listening currently via Tidal. Style sounds like a blend of EST / Michael Wollny / Neil Cowley trio - definitely be revisiting this.
Masterly playing on this classic.

The critics never took to this album but it was a fine first effort post Waters.
