This morning, interesting...

Some soothing Mary Black to start Sunday's listening. The addition of sax on this album is nice. I've always thought A Stone's Throw From The Soul a particularly strong song.

Bought this last week, first chance to listen. This 2016 version seems a bit less woolly than some of the other vinyl versions I've had.

Khruangbin -- The Universe Smiles Upon You -- Vinyl

A band from Texas specializing in Thai-influenced funk. Fantastic.

Thats an interesting sounding genre Joe!  I've found and added it in Tidal for anon thanks.

i hope you like it, Stevee -- i'm really digging it: mellow, cinematic, distinctive.

Another curious but effective mix: Cambodian pop out of L.A.

1969 - Original vinyl...

Brahms' quintet for clarinet and string quartet receives a full blooded performance by Raphael Severe, an extraordinary clarinetist, and the Prazak. The Prazak are rather straightforward, allowing Severe to shine. This results in some of Brahms' moments to pass by without the impact they can have, but I guess you can't have it all. Hindemith is, I feel, in the end an overrated composer, who wrote much dross and some nice music, nothing essential.

cheers

Drumfest time! Love 'Carpet Crawlers' on 'Seconds Out'...the way it builds is hypnotic.

UK first press from 1968. Why? Because I haven't listened to the Bobstress for months!

Chris Rea - Latin Blues - from the Blue Guitars set - great memories of the Latin beat from the good music clubs I visited while living in Rio. This beat suits Chris down to the ground as I think this is my  favourite style from this box set. Great music to relax to after a heavy few hours tidying the garden.

Heart - Dreamboat Annie. Great album, great guitar work and brilliant songs.

UK Atlantic first press from 1977. Super-funky double live album recorded on their '76 American tour (perfect for a sunny Sunday in October):

Been having something of a Yello fest here, with the arrival of "Toy" a couple of days ago.

This ain't half bad either.

However, moving on from Messrs Meier and Blank....................some smooth pop from last Century..............nice.

Mark Knopfler - Tracker - vinyl, bought as reduced from HMV last week. Great album well worth a listen, unless you expect him to sound like Dire Straits, like many seem to think he should.

Deja Vu.....On CD

Prompted by Raider's playing of this yesterday. Hmm, I thought. Not given that a spin in a while.

Time for some Joy Division archaeology. this is the famous Warsaw boot, in an early pressing with the free 7" single. Essentially it's a record of a 1978 session the group did with RCA's Richard Searling, the object being that they sign with Elvis and Bowie's label. They never did, of course, eventually forming a fruitful partnership with Tony Wilson's fledgling Factory Records, and the rest is history.

A couple of things stand out when listening to this record: first, through the murk of these spiteful-sounding early recordings, one can discern a group with something different to offer from the usual punky thrash (although it would have taken a brave man to predict that they'd go on to be one of the great groups); and second, despite the quality of the raw material, it would take the transformative genius of (producer) Martin Hannett to mould these songs into the extraordinary music found on Unknown Pleasures and the singles that followed it.

Yesterday's bargain arrival (thanks Clive).  CD rip.  Sounding very nice  indeed.

I'm glad you like it. I am completely hooked by that second track, 'Contemplation', but that's not to detract from the album as a whole, which is thoroughly absorbing. A bit different to your prog journey!

Yes that's a great track - wouldn't have been out of place on  "A Love Supreme".  Musical variety - a spice of life and all that... .  Cheers N.
