What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

This is one fantastic album - I know the church in which it was recorded well, having lived in Toronto for many (20+) years. I love the rawness, the foot tapping too close to the mike stand, the hollow sound. The LP is *far* better than the CD for listening but alas, I no longer have a turntable....Great choice!
In a Antonio Carlos Jobim mood:

Rediscovered this gem on Tidal last night. Fun and offbeat.

1969 - Original vinyl...
On vinyl. Classic LP from my semi-youth.
Having another go at this one. It's a grower. Tidal.

Rainy day here on the western edge of Hurricane Matthew.
First listen. Lisa Hannigan - At Swim

(2016) CD
Sara Watkins - young in all the wrong ways

(2016) CD
Hmm, detecting a cover pattern.

I've been playing this a lot this week since its arrival. Well up to their usual high standards IMO, a band whose music always makes me smile and always gets the body bopping. Not a great sight!! ![]()
And earlier, continuing the Truckers / Isbell listening. For me it's not quite as good as "Southeastern". CD rip.

I'm sure you're being modest Steve. Having been sucked down the prog route recently I've been resisting the Yello path (although I'll admit to a quick listen to this one on Tidal last week - wacky stuff but as has been pointed out tremendous SQ). Enjoy ..![]()

Not so much modest Nick it was more of a public health warning . Try all their albums over on Tidal or just buy them you can't go wrong, you've been given some pointers previously. It's good stuff musically (electro), Deiter Meier, one half of the duo is not only a performance artist, but a millionaire industrialist, a professional poker player, and also one-time member of the Swiss national golf team ![]()

You're right taxbuster! Even the cheapest vinyl edition is better than any cd. ![]()

The Universe Smiles Upon You by Khruangbin
Thanks to the forum contributors who flagged this one up. Very enjoyable chilled and funky, I wouldn't disagree with this clip from Amazon's long description of this Texan band's debut album.
"Taking influence from 1960's Thai funk - their name literally translates to 'Engine Fly'; in Thai - Khruangbin s debut album The Universe Smiles Upon You is steeped in the bass heavy, psychedelic sound of their inspiration, Tarantino soundtracks and surf-rock cool."

River City People - Say Something Good. Vinyl.
Took me a while to find this LP in my collection, but well worth the effort. Excellent album with not a bad track on it.
The cover photo took me back to my childhood, I spent a lot of time playing football on that beach and tumbling down those sand hills.

Now onto something old and familiar and what is (to me) the epitome of great heavy metal.
Gilad Atzmon on clarinet, soprano and alto sax
Asaf Sirkis on drums
Tom Mason on acoustic bass

I used to be a bit mixed about this DS album. Some songs I enjoyed, others I regularly skipped. However since acquiring a Naim system I have come to appreciate all those songs I didn't previously. These days I play the album straight through and enjoy everything.

1996 - Vinyl...
Great collaboration between two very talented musicians.

Bruce Springsteen - "Nebraska" (1982)
