Fred Hersch's sixth release for Nonesuch is a three-CD set, with separate volumes focusing on original works, classic jazz, and, finally, songs by Cole Porter. His suite of six "Songs Without Words" can't help but highlight his background in classical music, but his lyrical pieces still have the "sound of surprise" that differentiates jazz from all other forms of music. Radiohead, A Moon Shaped Pool deluxe (2-CD, 2-LP). Listening to the vinyl, which is lovely and quiet.

Led Zeppelin II

Some duff stuff. Should have been a single album - but worth an occasional listen.

I don't know why the Northern Europeans are so good at nu metal and nu prog etc. but they are. This album from the Finnish band Astronoid downloaded from bandcamp is tagged as black metal but that is very far from it. This is good "old fashioned" prog/rock/metal album without the blackness, very listenable and enjoyable.

Alanis Morrisette, Jagged Little Pill. Why? Simple, it is Brilliant!

'Unplugged' is good too. I saw her live from the media-pit in front of the crowd at 'T in the Park' when she toured the album. Great performance and I got some nice photos.

I saw her in the Jagged Little Pill tour in Manchester, it's one of only two gigs I have left early. She didn;t engage with the audience at all and played You Outta Know acapela. Was really disappointed because I love that album. By the sound of it she had an off night.

Eminem, Encore. This is one on my Son's Cd's that he left behind after he went to Uni. Fancied something different and this certainly is. Oddly I am enjoying the anger!

Great jazz, they just brought out a new one on Bandcamp, will definitely explore it...

Inspired by Haim to play this, my only Fred Hersch album. We went to the Vanguard last year and missed Fred by a few days, so I bought this CD instead.

Tears for Fears, Tears Roll Down, excellent greatest hits album and a great live group. Because I needed something to cheer me up after that atrocious football match. Flac via Audirvana/Hugo
Have not listened to all yet - but do like her !
HiRes Audio download - prices seem better than Quobuz !?

The New York born Ralph Rainger (1901-1942) tried one year of legal work before escaping to Broadway and later to Hollywood to compose music for the lyrics of Leo Robins which ended in a lot of plays and films. In 1938 their song "Thanks for the Memories" sung by Bob Hope in the film "The Big Broadcast won an Oscar. He died in a passenger airplane crash in 1942.
This is not a music often played but our friend Jan Lundgren with his trio are doing a commendable job of getting the spirit and pace of these seventy years old compositions. This track is with vocalist Sue Raney:
