Lïan by Rïcïnn

A good new band to me, black metal and female fronted vocally. Finnish and sometimes singing in that language they have managed to achieve an interesting crossover of styles, metal, symphonic metal, classical, choral, melodic, dark and light nuances. All very progressive and highly listenable, its my first crack at it after a recent download and I'm enjoying it.  It can be tried here.

A bit of old fashioned heavy rock from this Portsmouth based band. I always did enjoy the scenery down Portsmouth way, despite the sometimes inclement weather.

New fireplace fitted and loan speakers in place. Could be working out to be an expensive day so CASH seems quite appropriate

I'm going to be  interested to know what you think of those speakers standing in for your PMCs, over on the appropriate thread obviously.

And now

Why? Not had a shot of the mighty Quo for too long a time.

In the sleeve are the original merch insert, a copy of the lyrics to The Wanderer from Smash Hits (blame girl friend at the time!) and a an article out of a music mag about their End Of The Road show at Milton Keynes, I was there. Ah memories...

Hi James, I've missed your discussion about trying new speakers. What are they? I'm about to start looking around for new ones too.

Last night I all but finished Mick Houghton's recently published biography of Sandy Denny, 'I've Always Kept a Unicorn'. It paints a sad picture of the unravelling towards the end of her life. Such a sad loss.

Of course, the recorded music remains sublime.

Having enjoyed my one and only Fred Hersch album yesterday I thought I'd get another one. Recorded in 1987 and now re-released, it's absolutely excellent - having Charlie Haden and Joey Baron on bass and drums helps of course....

Porcupine Tree - Stupid Dream...

The Old Country

The Harmonica of Howard Levy is simply one of the most indescribable sounds in contemporary music. The acoustic and contra-bass classical guitars of Miroslav Tadic sing the song of the gypsy. Percussionist Mark Nauseef's work on the Purecussion Drums is both sensitive and dynamic. These three take the music to uncharted territory on originals, Macedonian folk tunes and improvisations with Howard simultaneously playing harmonica, ocarinas and sometimes clavichord as well.
