What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

Debussy: Preludes Book I & II, Catherine Collard (piano)

There have been times over the years that I wondered what drives my need to collect music? I have so much duplication of the same music and yet I get so excited to hear each and ever pianist or any chamber music that I can. In the last weeks (in relation to the Fall time) I always start to go in to overdrive. My favourite season is in motion and the sense of shorter days and cooler nights / snow setting in is just ideal for setting the mood and listening to music or playing music.
Enter Catherine Collard with the Debussy Preludes. Just out of this world beautiful.

Ravel - Monique Haas (piano)

...and I've died and gone to heaven.
I cannot imagine not having music in my life. There just is not enough hours in each day to spend with and cover everything I would like to.

Some TD to start the day, this one was their last albumin the Berlin Ohr label before they were signed by Virgin and championed by John Peel in the UK.

On CD:-

The Mission, Another Fall From Grace. Defiantly has the Mission sound, if you like their early music you should give it a spin.

I had a listen, very impressed.

Primal Scream - "Give Out But Don't Give Up".
The band the Rolling Stones should have been?

A great album Dave, but thank heavens your question was rhetorical!

I'm actually on a voyage of re-dicovery as far as Primal Scream are concerned, having not really listened to them properly for years.
I do hear hints of The Stones, "Midnight Rambler" era, hence my thoughts on what might have been, had they not gone down the "disco" route.
Mind you, having sampled their forthcoming blues album, it's 1964 all over again................not a bad thing........in many ways! ![]()

Talking of Blues, this is a masterclass in cool understated playing...........just the thing for a wet miserable North Yorks. afternoon.
I know I've posted this before, but any blues fans out there really need to have a listen to this.................one of last year's top albums, IMHO.
Still one of my favorite albums. Best appreciated with a glass of something warming in the late hours, but still a superb listen at any time of the day

Some say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and Perge are certainly always very sincere when it comes to all things Tangerine Dream.

On CD

What's all this then.....................the sun's suddenly back out in North Yorks?
Time for something a little more upbeat.................from the sadly departed Prince of Funk.
I can take or leave most Jazz but with a voice this exquisite...

Lydia Loveless-Real

YAGYA. THE INESCAPABLE DECAY OF MY HEART.

Earlier, I was drawing comparisons between Primal Scream and The Stones.....................not a million miles apart?
Either way, surely one of The Stones' best?
It's all good.

They are a great band but they are no Stones, Dave. Now, have a listen to early New York Dolls albums and you'll see a truly Stones copycat, tribute band. ![]()
