What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
I have only Bert to blame for the Lundgren's overdose since it was he who pointer out to me "European Standards" which started this quest. It is an early Lundgren playing sideman to horns in various recordings from 1995 to 2003. Again, highly recommended and many thanks to Bert.

A great concept of choosing an artist or a composer and playing the music with background information and other music lovers. I am not such a Queen specialist, but very enjoyable - and also amazing to seee that the recording no quality wasn't always top notch....
.....and no worries, I will not switch to Linn...., already invests too much in black boxes...:-)
Brings back memories of when this albums chart position had to be "helped" to achieve maximum sales.
The cat no sticks in my memory because of this EMTV 30

Lucie Horsch in her debut recording of Vivaldi's well-known concertos for recorder, plus other original and transposed concertos. Great fun, and well played with a good balance between the virtuosic, and contemplative Vivaldi. Compared to Maurice Steger on a recent Harmonia Mundi recording, the interpretation by Horsch and family & friends (her father is principal cellist at the KCO and member of the Amsterdam Vivaldi Players) is warmer, less driven but in tune with current performing practices.

I keep seeing this album mentioned and not having come across them before, i thought i'd place an order and give them a go ![]()
I'm still waiting for a couple of HH recommended RLJ albums that i didn't have in my collection to come through, so in anticipation of a weekend delivery...
No RLJ playing here, as for some reason I fancied some choral music. This recent release from the excellent King's Consort is a lovely album.

The boys are as deliciously tongue-in-cheek as usual and provide us with a cracking hour of great new material - whilst remaining recognisably Yello. Equally as good as 'Touch' for me. I reckon the deluxe version of 'Toy' is worth getting for three very good bonus tracks.
A lovely recording/mastering job too. Someone has actually responded to a cry of 'Careful with that compressor Eugene". It's a snappy, spacious, dynamic and transparent beauty with some delightful splashes of basso-profundo.
John.
Super review John, this new album has really hit the spot on every level and now it would seem so have the deluxe additional tracks.
Thanks for the reviews. A few days off work and enjoying this immensely. My only other Yello being 'One Second' which I've had since its release - Mainly because Billy McKenzie lived just round the corner from me in the early 80's.

Playing that now from the box set, James. Sounds better with every new listen. ![]()

Had this on vinyl years ago. I recall it sounding nicer than the cd but it's a good album none the less.

This has grown on me (in a good way) after a few listens.

Joining in the Radiohead fun above with their latest (excellent) offering, originally downloaded in 24/48 WAV from the Radiohead website back in May.

Good album that Graeme, I had it on vinyl back in the day and recently replaced it with a CD which, still sounds pretty good ripped and streamed.
