2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
Hungryhalibut posted:I must have run out of my free Photobucket uploads, so all I can say is that I'm listening to Suspended Night by Tomasz Stanko, with the Marcin Wasilewski trio. I was reminded of this earlier by a post about one of Marcin's earlier albums. Suspended Night really is quite brilliant, with lovely ECM sound.

There you go, Nigel.
You are very kind. I'll think of something really obscure next, to give you a challenge.

Why? Time to listen to one my all time faves, on original vinyl.

Very well fitting to the album before in the relaxed manner...

'Il Tabarro', for me amongst Puccini's supreme achievements - great story, unbelievably good music. This performance, with three charismatic leads in Neil Shicoff, Carlo Guelfi and Maria Guleghina, remains stunning, too.

One of my favourite albums of the year.
Very nice slice of Americana Ewen - given this a couple of Tidal runs already.

1979 - Original vinyl...

Smoothing away the evening with Mr. Ferry.
With contributions from Messrs. Gilmour, Knopfler and the king of cool, Nile Rodgers...............how could it not be good?

On vinyl...

On original vinyl...

The famous stereo recording of Boris, with Christoff in all three bass roles. He colours his voice according to the role, but achieves the opposite. However, the important thing is: he remains THE Boris of the ages. Another thing worth noting is the recording - the bells couldn't have sounded better regardless of vintage.

One of my all-time favourites too. Gets regular plays in my house.
Parts of this album border on genius and it was so ahead of its time. Brilliant SQ too. Original double vinyl. Shame I can't turn it up

Ulver's second album Kveldssanger, vastly different from their black metal debut, classical guitar, a little cello and flute plus occasional voice. Wonderfully relaxing after a stressful day.
I truly loved the first three or four albums by these and they were brilliant and exciting live at the time. SQ is not what I remember it being though although that's not why I got into them to be fair. Bloody hell this was good back in the day! Original vinyl.
