What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
e.s.t. - A strange place for snow
I sense a bit of a change in direction for them with this album, though I don't have the knowledge to say from what to what, still less why. But, hey, at least I noticed ;-)

Rock 'n Roll fest.....................Chuck Berry & Bo Diddley..................fish 'n chips, bangers and mash, or any other favourite combination you can think of.............surely? ![]()
Bob Dylan, Best of the Cutting Edge. A record I played when it first came out and then forgot. But with the Nobel Prize I've fired it up again, and what wonderful music it contains.

Nobody else on here seems to be in a Rock 'n Roll mood this evening......................so, sulking.................nighty night. ![]()
Mandolin Orange - Blindfaller. Tidal.
Sorry to post this one again but it's really getting under my skin (in a good way). Well worth a spin if you have any leaning towards Americana. Lovely harmonies & stripped back production.

Must dig my copy out again when I have the chance. Thanks for reminder!

I too have the 24/96 download of this (Legend - Bob Marley for those who have seeing difficulties). Great album but very disappointing SQ for a hi res download. I am sure the master was rather poor too and you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

On vinyl...
This is one of my favourite live albums - the stripped back songs and atmosphere of the recording make this a great listen.
Nirvana - Unplugged In New York

On vinyl...

On vinyl...
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
It's a while since I last played this but I'm hoping for the toe-tapping feelgood of Kamera all the way through.

Just time to sneak a listen to Ms Gardot before bed...
Melody Gardot - My One And Only Thrill

Comparing the concert with his recording ....

Jerry Douglas, Lookout for Hope. Tracks 1,5,9,10,11 tonight, but they are all great, totally original and slightly whacky Southern U.S. style music. (Nearly) All instrumentals built around Jerry, probably the greatest living acoustic slide guitarist. James Taylor adds a fab vocal to the very sweet and moving track 11. The HiFi experience is absolutely top notch too.

....which of course is going to lead me on to this next.. several of the Worlds greatest musicians performing one of the all time great live albums. Alison Krauss and Union station live.

archlute sounds very cosy... very "in the room"...

enjoy...

Workin' with the Miles Davis Quintet . The Analogue Productions re-issue in their 'Fantasy series' of a few years back. 2 LPs @ 45 rpm. This is the most satisfying re-mastering out of the five or six that I have heard, with the 'soft touch' that I find more appealing in portraying these recordings.

There are some variations in SQ depending on which version you have, but whatever the difference is very small. I have a 16 track version shown as 2002 but its release date is listed as 2013 from Qobuz. Compared to the CD rip which I believe was 1984 copy of the original & the 2002/13 is a lot better. The most notable is 'No Woman, No Cry'; its a live recording in both, whereas the CD is pretty awful, the 24/96 is so obvioulsy remastered & far far better, yes its the same live event but now its a wish I was there event.
