2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

The Black Keys getting a little more psychedelic and exploratory with their rock, a cracking way to start the day.
Captivating album....

Neil Cowley's Touch and Flee. Why? Because they are playing at the Turner Sims on Friday but I cannot go - Hilary is refusing to go to any more 'plinky plonky jazz' concerts - so playing the album is the best best thing.

Nutty African Blues and Bass soul funk - Demo'd a first Naim system with it last week and had the dealer on edge I think... all good

Time for this good sounding Definitive Edition before heading out into the garden to make the best of this fine sunny weather and get on with some chores.

2015 - Tidal...

If you like that one, have a listen to Empire Builder, her latest and best album to date.
Not my usual music staple, but enjoyable none the less. 'Foreclosure Of A Dream' was in heavy rotation at the time on MTV and that made me buy the album.
Best appreciated loud ![]()
Megadeth - Countdown To Extinction

1995 - Tidal...
The band the Mondays should have been had Shaun not been off his head and talking b....s all the time.

1990 - Original vinyl...
Elvis, Reggae and Zep all rolled into one. Nutters.![]()
Simple Minds - New Gold Dream CD rip , remastered at Abbey Road this year . Probably my favourite album of all time and definitely Simple Minds greatest moment . This version is the best I've heard , it sounds a lot more open than previous releases whilst Jim Kerr's vocals are broodier than ever ! Its available on half speed mastered vinyl but sadly no HiRes download at the moment . Yes please Abbey Road Studios .

Sorry to post this one again but it's really getting under my skin (in a good way). Well worth a spin if you have any leaning towards Americana. Lovely harmonies & stripped back production.
Nick, thank goodness you did post this one again, as I missed it the first time. It is a lovely piece of work. I much prefer stripped back, thoughtful, carefully crafted music, which this certainly is. I am very much in the 'less is much more' camp.

I quite like this snippet from a reviewer's summary of the album:
`Carried to Dust` is Calexico's most mature work to date, arguably the best synthesis of their frontier atmospherics and Latin-inflected country songwriting. The follow-up to 2005's much-dismissed `Garden Ruin', `Carried to Dust' makes the `South-Western noir' tag stick better than any other Calexico album. It's a record of great dusky beauty, varied and unusual musicianship and haunting songs.
Mandolin Orange - Blindfaller.
Another +1 here for this. Spotified it and will be buying. Thanks Ewemon

Nick, If you like stripped back country/bluegrass like Mandolin Orange, then you might like the following (Nickel Creek, Reasons Why for those with seeing difficulties):

I just think the songwriting, musicianship, vocals and production are top notch. Great stuff to simply relax to.
It is also on Tidal.
Got to work this evening so I thought I would dig up this 4-CD box of Lady Day's Columbia recordings to accompany my night at the keyboardface...

Nirvana - Unplugged In New York
I particularly like the cover version of Bowie's The Man Who Sold The World on this album. The final song Where Did You Sleep Last Night is another favorite.

The excellent new album from Kate Rusby.

A treat before dinner.
