2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.

This looked like an interesting album (Haim is most annoying as he is always posting albums I like the look of
) so I went to the river to find it. It's one of a series of four that Peter Erskine recorded with this Trio but all of them are rather expensive new. They have been assembled into a four CD box set called As It Was, which sells for £35, which is far cheaper than buying the four albums separately. Then I had a look on Qobuz as I try to download rather than buy CDs these days, as I only rip them and put them in the loft. Rather surprisingly the box set is for sale at the princely sum of £6.49, so if you are interested grab it while you can. Mine is downloading as I type...

Swedish Psychedelic space rock band Yuri Gagarin's self titled album. This is a very enjoyable, well played and put together, available to try on bandcamp, comparisons with the Hawkwind sound are impossible not to make.

Sheffield's current finest. Psycho electro history of electronic instruments. Linked to a video (available at a discount if you buy the CD)
Thanks for this one I had a quick listen last night via Tidal, liked it and will hopefully give it a full fat play through today.

That's a terrific heads-up HH. Many thanks.
Day six without my digital source so a classic to start the day's listening, and sounding rather good too. Original vinyl

Sorry, I made a mistake on the price. It wasn't £6.49 at all, it was £6.47. Qobuz can be pretty dippy so will probably never notice.
Before I fell in love with Rush, and long before CDs and MP3s there was the mighty Sabbath giving birth to heavy metal. This sounds so much better on vinyl than digital, a bit of volume and I'm 14 again.

On to what would be the second CD. So far its a very different Riverside from what we are used to, almost entirely instrumental, very proggy with some jazz / fusion elements on the last track. I like it, lets see what the remainder of the double album brings.

Van Morrison - No Guru, no Method, no Teacher.
I am a self-confessed VM nut. If you are like minded give this a whirl if you have not heard it before.
Convenienly, it is on Tidal.

Tidal...
A super new album from Leonard Cohen, released today. It's very short, but better 37 minutes of quality than 80 of so, so stuff. It seems my photobucket account has returned to life, so I can add a screen shot too.

OK I've finished listening to this double album, the longer it goes on the further away it gets from Riverside as we know them, very different. It will definitely take another review, next time not listening to them not as Riverside but as a.n.other prog rock band with a new release because it is that different.

You are right it's not the Riverside we know. And I would go so far that it's not as good as before. I think they shouldn't have done this and go into the new direction they are going now.

Why? Because the torture never stops...
