So, this.

This one will get an absolute recommendation from me. It's rhythmic, modern and constantly engaging. People into modern jazz, give it a try...

McKinley  -  "Big Top Shop Talk"  (1998)

Spirit in the Room - Tom Jones.

One of a trilogy of albums produced by Ethan Johns in which as Mojo said that Sir Tom "surveys his musical landscape".

Really lovely stuff.

Lindsay

First heard this at a Naim Audio demo:

Turning into an increasingly melancholy evening - now moved on to Mark Knopfler's Ragpickers Dream.  Love the gentle glide but totally absorbing mood of this

1993 - Original vinyl...

Time to cool down a bit with a little Miss Sandoval.

Bach Solo Violin Sonata's and Partita's. Henryk Szeryng on DG. Partita No.2.

Superb listening. Mix is a little strange in that DZ seemed to be trying a bit too hard to use Stereo on a single instrument, such that a double-stop puts one string in the left Speaker and the other in the right! Doesn't detract from the musical experience though. So vivid.

Try this. Very early, and all the better for it.

This one has passed me by.

Tidalising as we speak.

Kevin,

I was just sampling a new recording by Rachel Barton Pine of the same Bach works. It has been getting rave reviews. What do you think of it?:

Amazing.  I guess great minds think alike.  I just bought the Rachel Barton Pine this morning ;-)

A recent purchase - cleaned up the screaming pretty well; it is still there, but if it wasn't it wouldn't be a Beatles live album.

The Best Of Warren Zevon. Genius. On CD from 2002. The title may sound a bit pretentious until you listen to all 22 tracks and I've been playing this one over and over again the past week. Warren had a unique gift for combining austere lyrics with lovely yet haunting melodies that really stick in the mind.

Aerosmith's Greatest Hits (1980). On original US CD release from 1993 - 20 bit mastering then. A rocking compilation. The band's best from the 1970's and all I really need to hear from them. Never got into their latter hair-band, sleaze-metal sound.

An interesting concept and experience...

This is a very fine album, beautifully played and recorded. Just the thing for a sunny Sunday morning.

(2012)

Beautifully transcribed by Hopkinson Smith who plays the theorbo so delicately and fluently on these recordings, a joy to have around the house this morning.

Horace Andy - Living In The Flood

Deram first press CD ripped to WAV. Probably my favourite Caravan album and I like the dry close 'natural' sound of the recording.
