The Serenity of Suffering - Korn

(21st October)

Just released and just about to have my first listen to it, so far its been getting good reviews from buyers over in the South American rain forest.

I've been having a bit of a Hank Mobley fest this morning, starting out with 'Workout', then 'Soul Station', 'Roll Call' and now 'Peckin' Time'. Some nice hard bop there.

Ooh this is good. LC voice is deeper and more ominous than ever, the minimal musical settings are perfect and every song tackles one of the big themes: religion, desire, life and death. Produced by his son Adam it is hauntingly hypnotic music for the troubled 21st century.

1983 - Tidal...

Deep Sabbath or Black Purple? WTF were my words when I first heard this album back in 83. I know, that cover really sucks and it is one the most ill conceived albums in the history of rock. Still, when all is considered, it is quite fascinating how it came to be. What a mess but there's something about it that makes you  want to listen to it. Strange, very strange!

(30th September)

Finally got around to this recommendation from Ewemon. A really enjoyable album that gently goes along in well played bluegrass style accompanied by the lovely vocals of the band, Emily Frantz and Andrew Marlin. As an added bonus its been well recorded (at home) and the SQ spot on.  Thanks Ewen.

You're tempting me to get it out for a play later on

I tend to listen to the Nocturnes mostly early in the day , probably because jazz music takes over when evenings fall.

Just don't blame me for any adverse side effecs, Steve. It may seriously impair your musical taste momentarily but thank goodness it does not seem to be permanent and you'll be fine in a couple of hours, unlike listening to anything by Phil C.

Yes - Fragile (24-96 stereo mix) streamed (a rip from the Steven Wilson 2015 curated reissue package).

I've just compared this to my Rhino 2003 CD rip. It is a wonderful step up in listening experience, even streamed wirelessly on the UnitiQute / Cheap Focals. Brashness dampened, detail elicited, body firmed!

Listening on vinyl, great album, songs really strong.  The mix is a little muddy.

Jack Johnson - Sleep Through The Static

I think this guy is generally underrated. Artfully crafted music. We have several of his records, including this one and they get regular rotation. It doesn't always have to be Porcupine Tree and Pink Floyd.

Jack is very talented. Have you checked out his surf films? September Sessions is great! Doesn't hurt having Kelly Slater in it ripping.
