2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.

LC voice is deeper and more ominous than ever, the minimal musical settings are perfect and every song tackles one of the big themes: religion, desire, life and death. Produced by his son Adam it is hauntingly hypnotic music for the troubled 21st century.

Deram first press CD ripped to WAV. Probably my favourite Caravan album and I like the dry close 'natural' sound of the recording.

Mmmm.
From Garrard SP25>Pioneer PL12D>Thorens (something or other)>Systemdek>LP12 this was my ultimate gauge of rightness.
And if it were possible to nominate an album and say: "This is me", this would probably be it.
Love the Steven Wilson mix too though.

2016 - Tidal...
A little American folk music from the ever effervescent miss O'Donovan.
Thanks to Graham for his post earlier on.

Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation - Mirage. Her new album (on vinyl) - came out Friday. Even on first listen, this is all killer, no filler. She is labelmates with Goat (one of my favourite contemporary acts) and this album blows Goat's most recent (disappointing) effort out of the water. There's a heavy Moon Duo influence here, which as far as I'm concerned, is a Very Good Thing.

Anyone else here know of the Canadian neo-prog-rock outfit?
Thanks to Ian F for the introduction.
John.
UK first press. Bought s/h yesterday:

Joe Henderson - Double Rainbow - The Music of Antonio Carlos Jobim. Very nice groove (as you would imagine). CD rip.

2016 - Vinyl...
Laura Gibson - Empire Builder.

Amazon have a special offer. Buy this along with Nick Cave's "Skeleton Tree" and they throw in a free appointment with a therapist.
Just stumbled on this: Psykick Girl - Release Me

Interesting...

Emerson Lake & Palmer - The Anthology On CD
Recent release of this best of. Great band. Great collection for anybody new to their work.

Tharaud's new Rachmaninov recording includes the second piano concerto, the morceaux op. 3 and various other works. Thematically it's all over the place, but the performances are outstanding.

Mandolin Orange - "Blindfaller" (2016) as seen on this thread

On vinyl.

I like the way these boys do their hard rock, supporting Black Sabbath's tour earlier this year they continue to get great reviews.

Might as well join in.

Billy Bragg & Joe Henry - "Shine A Light: Field Recordings From The Great American Railroad" (2016)
