What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
Gave in to temptation (again ..). Qobuz hi res download. What a rich and varied album this is. with lots of hooks that stick with you. As others have said, it's taken quite a while to get into it, but well worth the effort I'd say.

2008 - Tidal...
It's been ages since I last listened to anything by this lot.

Little Feat - Dixie Chicken.
Starting off the evening with some of the best of Southern Funk.
Good idea Dave
Little Feat - Hoy - Hoy!

Little Feat - Feats Don't Fail Me Now.
One more from Little Feat, though it's quite difficult to choose between four or five of their albums...........they're all good. IMHO.
Funk on! ![]()

'Gaia' rearranging my innards/furniture with gargantuan percussion. Great!

Which album is this please Graeme? ................. no luck on Google.
1997 - James Taylor - Hourglass, Dave.
Cheers Tony,
Tidalising it right now, though with one eye on the footy.
This one's been on my Tidal list for a while. Just cracked and picked up a copy for 23p at the usual place. This forum is costing me a fortune
Just done the 23p thing too................................keep this up, and Tidal begins to look quite expensive!
Well I have just had to pay the exorbitant price of 50p from the usual place for this but the condition was described as 'Good'. There was one for 24p but the condition was described as 'Acceptable' whatever that means. Let's see what turns up.
A few years ago one of my daughter's student flat mates ordered a toaster from a large auction site as thier's had broken and it is a well known fact that all students practically live on toast. Two days later a tiny package turns up containing a perfect miniature toaster for a dolls house!
GoGo Penguin - Man Made Object
It's just been pointed out to me that they are playing at the Turner Sims on Thursday, so I might see if I can get a day shift.

Steven Wilson - Hand Cannot Erase.
Because of some of the comments on here about this, I had decided I was not going to like it, or would need several listens to come to the same conclusion. Whenever I hear such voices in my head I give myself a good telling off and say to myself.....'how dare you judge an album without even listening to it.'
Well I am listening to it for the first time and am enjoying it. I am sure it will continue to grow on me.
Beware being swayed by others' opinions and beware of those negative voices.

This sort of things work both ways, Nick. I can't stand the bloke, his stuff - including PT - his remastering of KC's albums but if people are happy listening to him, let it be.

Ry Cooder - Bop Till You Drop.
Staying funky with this one...........great musicians having a ball, with the added bonus of Gospel backing singers.
One of his best, and there's been lots.

Cue: Synthetic outrage from listeners to Jeremy Vine on Radio Daily Mail, sorry Radio 2, and phone-in listeners demanding that resources be put into front line services instead.

Continuing my jazz theme.

2000 - Tidal...
He used to post quite frequently here. I wonder if he's still doing gigs?

Aretha Franklin - Spirit in the Dark.
Staying with the Gospel thing, a vastly underrated album of Aretha's.................easily overlooked, compared to her million sellers. IMHO.
Today's arrival; great modern jazz from 2002 (thanks Bert).
Orrin Evans - Meant to Shine. CD rip.

(2003)
I've been enjoying dipping into her back catalogue most of this week and this is another very enjoyable one.

I think we might be talking about slightly different things here. You have obviously listened to SW and decided he is not for you. Fair enough. I am warning against being swayed by others' opinions of an artist without listening yourself (myself to be accurate). And the negative voices I refer to are those in my own head, telling me I won't like something before even trying it.
Sometimes I have to remind myself to keep an open mind. Thats all.

Blake Mills - Heigh Ho.
A bit left field this one.............lots of Cooder style guitar and weird song structures................but, after a few listens.............it's great.
One advantage to having no digital replay is that it forces you to dig into your library, and this one is a cracker
