What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

AC/DC - Back In Black, quite loud, clears the cobwebs.

2016 - Tidal...
Released today on CD / DVD / Blu Ray. It does not "sound" like he's slowing down despite being 69.

Willie Dixon - Poet of the Blues.
Chicago blues? .........................he's the originator.

1986 - Vinyl...
Contributions from Tony Williams, Ginger Baker, Steve Vai, Ryuichi Sakamoto among others.

This came floating down that grand South American river to my door. Ripped on my trusty UnitiServe and sounding wonderful via my NDS, all for the princely sum of 1p, yes 1p (OK plus £1.26 p&p).
And the best bit is that ripped secondhand CDs sound the same as new ones assuming they are in reasonable condition.
I give you the wonderful Joss Stone and The Souls Sessions virtually free.

Walter Trout - Blues for the Modern Daze.
Great blues / rock from Walter.................... who's overshadowed, somewhat unfairly, by Joe Bonamassa.
Deserves a wider audience. IMHO.

Inspired by another forum member I just gave this a clean on the Okki Nokki and found the original till receipt tucked inside the sleeve. I'd purchased this album in November 1978. It cost £3.70, which seemed quite a lot then

Eric Bibb & Needed Time - Good Stuff.
More impeccably played blues from the ever reliable Eric Bibb - this one with his Swedish studio backing band...............recorded "as is", with no overdubs or subsequent jiggery pokery...............good stuff indeed.
i have this and use it quite often as it tells me a lot of whats going on in my system. i find its "purity" very refreshing...
enjoy

That would be +- £20.70 in today's dosh, so no need for a mortgage
.

1983 - Original vinyl...
Ironic that, while he was totally against drugs, a lot of people found "entertaining" them enhanced the enjoyment of his music. ![]()
Cleaning vinyl and coming across old favourites. My favourite Canned Heat

Steve Winwood - Roll With It.
Another blast from the past ....................... Steve gets back to R 'n B / Funk.....................one of his best.

A new purchase following a couple of recommendations on here, and my first taste of Ms Krall (if you'll forgive the expression). Am I liking this? Just a bit. ![]()
A+ | Transcoded DSD

(1997)
I listened to their latest album earlier today which has prompted me to go back now and listen to where it all started for them, not that I need any excuse for going through their back catalogue again. ![]()

Mary Chapin Carpenter - Stones In The Road. Lovely.
54p from the usual place. This hi fi business is costing me a fortune!

Glad you are enjoying it. You've been DK'd and there is no cure I'm afraid.

Another good album Nigel (after Joss Stone's early one) its always worth having a look at the river.
Giovanni Antonini, co-founder of "Il Giardino Armonico" group, has many achievements mainly in Baroque and Classical era which include special performances to music by Vivaldi, Bach, Biber, Handel and others.
Grammy Award was awarded to the disc "The Vivaldi Album" with Cecilia Bartoli and to "Sacrificium" (she also starring).
In addition there a disc of the remarkable collaboration with the soprano Julia Lezhneva.
Antonini and the label "alpha" have their own plans for the future; "Haydn 2032" is a complex project - Haydn's 107 symphonies will be recorded by the year 2032 (celebrating 300 years to the composer). Each disc in the series will also include a work of another composer, a contemporary of Haydn.
Another Antonini's project, which was a huge success, is the collection of Beethoven's symphonies with the Basel Chamber Orchestra, Sony recordings.
These performances are some of the most extraordinary to the well-known symphonies.
And there is more... It is worth listening to his new CDs.
Serpent & Fire is a disc which soprano Anna Prohaska is accompanied by Antonini.
And the highlight is the album that has been published yesterday: Mozart's violin concertos with Isabelle Faust/Antonini.
Great(!) album, great impression (from Tidal).
BP.

Thanks, Nigel. I probably have been. A second DK CD is awaiting unwrapping: Only Trust Your Heart. Particularly looking forward to giving that a spin this evening.

Big Big Train.

Released today - it's been remastered by Rob Aubrey - strangely; the man who 'mangled it for mp3' in the first place.
Anyroad; he must have listened to the complaints of myself and others, and has done a fine job this time round. There is a much greater sense of instruments and vocalists having space to breathe. There is obviously increased separation and dynamic range. Superb. The previously flat, congested and compressed mush is no more.
It's lovely to now be able to really enjoy this fine collection of songs on a high-resolution system.
EERCD 0017 is the Cat Nº you want.
John.
