2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.

Newly downloaded today, following a great review in The Guardian. Part improvised, part composed, sounding very good on the first listen. It's one of those records to really listen to and get immersed in.

Thought it would be too free for me, I will give it a try through Tidal if available. Thanks for the tip.

No ECM on Tidal as far as I am aware unfortunately...

I hate ECM's way of doing base. Standard high prices, no offering to streaming providers (also Qobuz offers only snippets), but they have some great music....so I every now and then force myself to go there.....

Act is from that perspective much more open.

I'd rather pay £16 for a great album that I'll play for years than £20 per month for a load of pap. ECM has to be one of the best labels around: why should they pander to the likes of Jay Z?

A brand new copy of Dylans Blood on The Tracks, my first copy bought on release in 70's as my first Dylan album, just about worn through. I really wanted the MOFI one but she got the wrong one but still cost her £45 as one of my Xmas records. Condition is appalling!

I can highly recommend the MFSL BOTT Vinyl. It's one of my favorite MFSL Dylan reissues for SQ,

Menuhin/Fournet/Orchestre des Concerts Colonne: Lalo Symphonie Espagnole 1947 recording

Menuhin's fiddle so willynilly the tune does not even feel like Spanish influenced.

Wanda Wilkomirska/Antonio Barosa: Fritz Kreisler  Dear Fritz 1971 recordin

I've known him as one of the great violinist of all time but I didn't realise how prolific Kreisler was. There are some gems amongst these well chosen short tunes he wrote between 1905 to 1927 which are full of golden past time.

I've discovered great tunes like Praeludium And Allegro or lotus Land.

Tombourin Chinois might not have a wit of Francescatti, but her transparent tone coupled with her direct communication style is refreshing. Vamp like Caprice Viennois. Londonderry Air is nothing but ‘Danny Boy’ expressively played by both. The album ends with lively Coreli Variations ( falsely attributed to Tartini )

Interestingly many of his tunes were credited to someone else altho many are actually written by him. In later interviews he confesses that he told publisher those tunes were *new discoveries* by established artists otherwise they don't have a chance being recorded. Noone would buy the work by young unknown fiddle player.

A piano might have an excessive reverb at times but the tone of violin has a great clarity and transparency. Well recorded by Connoisseur Society.

Praeludium und Allegro is entirely his own. (falsely credited to Pugnani )

Weren't we lucky having so many good bands emerging and playing such good music around this era. Roger Chapman's vibrato singing voice was always distinctive and in some ways a forerunner to Joe Cocker's gritty sound.

Back in the day as a teenager this always seemed to be the epitome of West Coast cool psychedelic.

Thought I would join the Hiatt set. An official acoustic album never released.
