What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

Robert Johnson - The Complete Recordings.
If not the guy who started it all, he remains, at least, the inspiration for so many blues singer / guitarists...........the father of modern blues.

Got this queued up while I go and get a cold one from the fridge.

1967 - Original vinyl...Mono.

Muddy Waters - Folk Singer.
Muddy doing it acoustically, with Buddy Guy, Willie Dixon and Clifton James in attendance...........what's not to like?
Seriously, not just for fans of Muddy, but one for all blues enthusiasts ..............one of my Desert Island Discs...........brilliant.

(2013)
Another Scandi' rock band, doing a sort of prog rock, symphonic metal, art rock thing. Its actually pretty good as are their other two albums.

Dave you have no idea what your talking about.....just cueing it up now ![]()

1971 - Original vinyl...
Classic vinyl - overdue another playing.
I see it's been re-issued. My original copy sounds just fine.

Because its probably my favourite 'Purple album and I've been all over it in recent weeks. Anyone into rock/prog/metal who doesn't get off to the first track "Chasing Shadows" is probably deaf or dead. So, play it louder... you can play it on Tidal if its not already in your collections. ![]()

Muddy Waters - Hard Again.
Moving on to electric Muddy, this time with Johnny Winter, James Cotton and the band playing low down and dirty club blues...........sensational!

Which version do you have? I would like this on vinyl but modern versions mostly seem to be very expensive audiophile pressings. I would like one but not at the asking price!

Just the extended edition double CD, I'm afraid................recommended though, with extra songs which didn't make the original album.
There's a couple of folks doing the vinyl over on the River at twenty squids though.
Great album.
Nice floating trio jazz...

Very fond memories of playing that album endlessly when I was a teenager. Wore out my original vinyl. I've always bracketed In Rock with other classics of a the day like Sabbeth's debut album, LZI and II, Electric Ladyland, and Tull's Stand-up and Benefit.

Buddy Guy - Damn Right, I've Got the Blues.
Moving on from Muddy, another Chicago legend, this time with a little help from his friends, Clapton, Beck and Knopfler.

1969 - Original vinyl...
This one is for Mike(MDS) although I have the feeling he would rather listen to their follow-up, Benefit.

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble - Couldn't Stand the Weather.
That "difficult" second album? .......................far from it........................great bar room blues from Stevie and the band.

George Thorogood and the Destroyers...............
One good thing leads to another...........so.............more down and dirty bar room blues from George and the boys..............LOUD!
