2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

You've prompted me to give this a run on Tidal Clive as I only have a "Best of" Art Blakey on Blue Note CD. This does sound great - I'm also always amazed how good these recordings from that era sound. May have to seek out the CD. ![]()

Long overdue first listen.

Yes, that's a masterpiece even in digital form. Now if you really want to be spellbound and mesmerised have a listen to the original vinyl pressing or even the 2014 Music Matters remaster: You'll be blown away. ![]()

Bluegrass. A nice fall day, so this seems appropriate. First listen.
A+ | Tidal

Live in Ravenna
(2014)
Because its Ripley Johnson (of Wooden Shjips) other band and I hadn't heard this live album before.
Vinyl

On CD

Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith - E A R S on Vinyl
I agree 100% with this observation - "Much of the album's warmth and energy stems from Smith's use of the versatile analog synthesizer, the Buchla Music Easel."

Kate Rusby - Life in a Paper Boat.
This is rather nice.
A little reminiscent of Cara Dillon maybe.
'Tis on Tidal.

Thanks Denis I've "wishlisted" it over there for a listen later.

One of the albums that got me hooked on rock music, brilliant
I bought this because I saw it on here and thought the cover was wonderful. It arrived today and it's just great. I never knew that André Previn was such a good piano player. And of course it has Leroy Vinnegar's always enjoyable walking bass. Recorded in 1956 I believe.

As prompted by an earlier post. I'd forgotten how good this album is and it sounds fantastic. Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

Great Compilation

A long while ago I started a thread about modern classics, and I reckoned (and still do) this to be one. Mind you, as an old codger I think anything after 1990 is "modern" ![]()
A lot of credit is due to William Orbit, but nevertheless Madge did splendidly here.
I wouldn't disagree Gary, it's full of mood and atmosphere and beautifully recorded. I'm sorry I missed that thread, sounds interesting

Glad you like it.

What with Dylan, Stevie Nicks and Neil Young, I though that was the end of your recent jazz retrospective. You've certainly been digging out some gems (some of which are quite obscure) which have influenced my choices recently.
It was more of a case that I had an itch I had to scratch by playing some rock music.

Sorry, I forgot it was your recommendation - many thanks. This really is most enjoyable.
