Hugely talented artist and one the NAIM label should look at as her latest is only going out as a cdr.

All her discs are excellent.

She has just finished her latest US tour today.

Some trax off the new Mary Chapin Carpenter due out May the 6th

First spin of the latest in a series of high profile releases of the Dvorak cello concerto. This time thankfully coupled with the much less often heard Martinu #1.

Cheers,

EJ

Thanks for this ewemon. I really like the little video clips, especially when it is an artist I am not familiar with. It is so handy to just click and listen for a bit before I choose whether or not to search out some of the artist's music. It is a nice bit of convenience. Appreciate it.

Oistrakh/Yampolsky: Tartini "Devil's Trill' Sonata & Mozart Soanta K.454  1956 recording

Famous cadenza is pretty wild showcasing soloist’s technical ability. A well defined starts and stops of notes creates urgency and drama particularly effective for the finale. I reckon a lot of double stops in a busy segment with indeed in a devilish attitude guarantees a thunderous applaud at a recital. I would like to hear how Heifetz does this but Oistrakh gives enormous presence and command.

Perhaps Oistrakh’s strict style might not be suited for Mozart work where it needs a fluid line and wit. He’s a bit stiff here.

Unlike the Tartini piece, piano has mroe prominent role of mingling with the violin. Pity that the piano sounds relativlye muffled and unclear in relative to the violin. Lovely Allegretto in true Mozart bravura yet playful style. Oistrakh’s earthy style never lets the tune become too precious.

This is a beautifully recorded and engineered mono.

Having a first listen to this Norwegian band who describe themselves in part by saying "Protostar is a melodic psychedelic trance & ambient project directly inspired by science-fiction, astronomy and cosmology"...

She is a really nice person as well no airs and graces with her. If you want to buy any of her albums that you see on any online site that are too expensive pop over to Facebook and look her up as she has a Paypal.me account and you can get them direct.

Since one or two of you like the video idea then this is another artist whose album I recommend. Title track above.

Having a few days off work and the house for myself, which means turning up the volume and listen to good music!

Strangely never bought anything of The Who before now - although I really like their music.

This was up first:

My Generation

Then:

Who's Next

And now:

Who Are You

Now over to something completely different but oh so wonderful music.

I deliberately waited for the hysteria to die down before listening to this album. Lazarus is  a great track though extremely depressing, just like the rest of the album,  reminding us, I'm sure he knew, of the imminence of his death. It is a very good album but not great. Nowhere near his best years IMHO. I'm sure others will disagree.

Another video trax taken from an excellent album that came out the tail end of last year.
