What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

Very classy, impressive performances of these two warhorse concertos. A radio review mentioned that really everything about this recording is fantastic, and after listening to this recording several times straight in a row, I have to agree. The whole, and within the whole, moment after moment the performance exhilarates and surprises through its excellence. Sound quality, likewise, is perfect. Highest recommendation.
Cheers

A friend gave me this as he no longer has a cassette player. Sounding mighty fine to me.

Sampled on Tidal - not my thing....
Sampled on Tidal, not yet decided - but sounds good...

She is not completely my style, but some interesting stuff....

This is a very fine new ECM release, with a guitarist I'd not heard of before, and a brilliant rhythm section. The high res version was a crazy price, so I bought the CD, which still sounds fantastic.

Wanted to try the system with some choral. Kyrie. Feel like watching 'Amadeus' yet again, but will resist !
Never quite sure I really like what Gardiner and his period instruments do. Anyone got a good recommendation for this and/or the Requiem?
For the Requiem, the Dunedin Consort on Linn.
Had to buy this to get the couple of tracks that aren't otherwise available. I'm sure you'll understand ![]()

I started listening to this on the way home from work tonight and then continued when i got in the house. Great album.
Manic Street Preachers - Everything Must Go
Now ending my evening with a quick listen to a new purchase that kept getting mentioned. Not my usual music but enjoying it. Another great find thanks to the Music Room ![]()

Blue Room by The Orb on CD - the full 40 minute version for a bit of 90's nostalgia

The Orb - Metallic Spheres.
Good shout for The Orb, this one featuring David Gilmour...................nice and calming after that disastrous footy result. ![]()
Jeff Buckley, Grace, Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

Another DG "originals" issue being reissued in high-res. The performance is a classic, glamorous, well sung and incredibly moving. I don't mind the stage cuts that were observed in this studio recording (fairly minor IMO) but holding it back slightly is Kleiber's direction, which is a bit too waltzy for my taste.

I Have numerous different recordings of Mozart's Requiem, and whilst I agree with Nigel that the Dunedin Consort version is very good, I tend to prefer the AAM version under Christopher Hogwood. The only solution really is to buy them both!

Thee Oh Sees latest offering.

Some live (in Bologna and Cologne) Berlin School electronica to see in the dawn.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Eponymous debut album (1984). On original US CD from 1988. First listen and fun to hear the band's early output.
