Mainly because I saw her in concert last night, and just wanted to hear more of her work.

We had forgotten we had tickets until they dropped through the door. 23rd RFH.

Anekdoten - A Time Of Day

This morning's walking music - more Scandinavian Prog, just right for a mild  but overcast morning. This one's from 2007 - they've found their own voice by now, but they haven't forgotten how to smother everything in Mellotron!

Though on this one, they channel an early Caravan keyboard sound...

Lightnin' Hopkins - The Complete Aladdin Recordings.

Picking up on Ewen's blues shout earlier, this one covers Lightnin's work for the Aladdin label between '46 to '48.

Simply the best of country blues.

John Ellis - Evolution: Seeds & Streams

Chamber jazz. Ellis was with Cinematic Orchestra for the early  (and best!) albums, and here he's on piano with not just bass and drums but horns, cello and a couple of koras. Produced by Matthew Halsall. It's a lovely, pretty gentle album - nice to put your feet up to. Bandcamp link (24/48).

Agreed, very good and very Caravan. Do you know why they were eight years between making this and last year's  album "Until All The Ghosts Are Gone"?

Hippy slackers! I suspect finance is a factor - though Niklas Barker/Berg (vocals, keys, guitar, main composer) entertains himself with the odd bit of soundtrack work (El Ultimo Fin de Semana is very good and predictably another mellotron fest), his jam band My Brother The Wind (who are decent but not in Anekdoten's class) and a one off group with other Scandi progsters, most notably the excellent Reine Fiske (Landberk, Paatos, Dungen) called Morte Macabre - more doomy prog covers of horror soundtracks.

2016 - Tidal...

Good bluesy/psychedelic/funk mix.

Emmylou Harris - Stumble Into Grace

As I get on with a few tasks in what's left of the afternoon light.

Mud Morganfield & Kim Wilson - For Pops.

I posted this one recently, but it's so good, it's back on at the mo'.

Proving he really is a chip off the old block, and with the help of Kim Wilson, of Fabulous Thunderbirds fame, this carries on the tradition of Chicago club blues at it's very best.

Thats an answer and a half, thanks Nick!

Muddy Waters - Live.

It doesn't get much better than this........................with the late great Johnny Winter ably assisting..................superb album, which captures live Chicago club blues brilliantly.

Because I suddenly had that ear worm desire "thing" to hear the blazing, fuzzy, muted guitar on the opening track, the rest of the tracks are following along nicely too.

Miles Davis Quintet: Freedom Jazz Dance: The Bootleg Series Vol 5 – pure instinct.  Tidal.

Because I saw a review in the Grauniad;

"This three-CD box set contains Davis’s 1966-68 studio work with his glorious second quintet (Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Tony Williams). This was the band that seemed to function on pure instinct, without the usual safety net of chord sequences and so on. How did they do it? Well, more than two hours of unreleased session reels, while fascinating to listen to, don’t reveal many secrets. Some tricky bits are painstakingly rehearsed, but it’s mostly phenomenally sharp ears and quick reactions. Three classic albums resulted from these sessions: Miles Smiles, Nefertiti and Water Babies. Hard to believe it was 50 years ago. Nobody’s done it better since, and few have even tried."

Just a little more TYA, this was their follow up album to Watt.

For some reason I fancied playing a bit of Kenny Wheeler.
