What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
A vinyl disc which I was given by a friend. I cannot understand how he didn't like this. I find it totally absorbing, being a blend of east and west that really works. Maybe a bit more accessible than Shakti, with slightly greater westward leaning. Gorgeous recording too.
Kevin-W posted:This, on vinyl. Bought today. The sound might be an upgrade on the original 1977 LP (I've got it, but haven't listened to it in years), but the cover most certainly isn't - an abomination that more closely resembles an advert than a record sleeve.
Agree about the cover K. I also have the original, only bought this for completion of official Beatles releases. It's unlikely to get played or even opened
Worlds coming together: Tabula Rasā is a collaborative album by American banjoist Béla Fleck together with Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (playing traditional Indian slide guitar "Mohan veena") and Jie-Bing Chen, who plays the traditional Chinese two-string fiddle "Erhu". The unusual combination of Fleck's banjo together with these traditional instruments creates a unique sound on this album, which was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best World Music Album at the 39th Grammy Awards.

2010 - CD (rip)...
Haven't listened to this in a while. I wish he'd release more material as he's really talented.
How else to follow Zakir Hussain other than with Shakti. This album is their best IMHO.
Excellent Soul Funk CD from Back/Beats..
1995 - CD (rip)...

Driving back from Edinburgh earlier today after a very pleasant 36 hour stay I was playing the new Goat album again but remain totally disappointed with it ... So on with them live and in better form.
Leonard Cohen Live In London - on vinyl. Been looking for the time to play this right through since his passing, and finally managed. Tremendous album. Great recording and some amazing songs and music.
Ulver Live at the Norwegian National Opera
great live recording, but maybe a bit 'difficult ' in places
Norah Jones - "Day Breaks" (2016) Listening to 2016 releases only this weekend. Loved this new NJ on the first listen.
I've been listening to these 2 albums on Tidal. They're a big name band, with a very loyal following, but for me, I just don't get them at all. Well, at least I tried.

At least you tried Nigel but if you don't get their "Black Album" then you are unlikely to get them at all...
My favorite album of 2016, I met him after a concert to get my cd signed, very nice guy

Is it "18"only music cd by Norwegian Opera?
Bat For Lashes - "The Bride" (2016) my favorite of her releases.
While I still very much like their first album this one is, for me, Roxy's best. Side 2 (though I now have it only on CD) is almost hypnotic.

Or you should try the older ones.....
listening session this afternoon
Tindersticks - "The Waiting Room" (2016) newest release from a band I always enjoy.
