Just listened to I Still Do from Eric Clapton, a good album...

Back to that big Floyd box.

This time it's the "bonus" disc, an audio-only "2016 remix" of Live at Pompeii, with the addition of an alternate take of "Careful With That Axe, Eugene". A fantastic performance of course, but it's marred for me  by a mix/mastering that is way too trebly...

  1. "Careful With That Axe, Eugene": 6:45
  2. "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun": 10:35
  3. "One of These Days": 5:50
  4. "A Saucerful of Secrets": 12:49
  5. "Echoes": 24:56
  6. "Careful With That Axe, Eugene" (Alternative Version): 6:06

On original vinyl. Because there has no been no Frappage in these parts for a while. New album due next spring/summer, the rumour mill has it...

Good idea, this and her last are my favourites of her albums to date, nice to know that another is to come next year... I'll give it a play now.

Johannes Moser paired up with Andrei Korobeinikov for an all-Russian program of cello sonatas and various smaller works. In hires, via memorystick on the BDP.

Cheers,

Ron Sexsmith - Carousel

By turns, happy, sad, sardonic, observational, playful. But always tuneful.

George Thorogood and the Destroyers - The Dirty Dozen.

Late start to the day, with a bit of good old bar room blues from George and the boys.......................doing what they do best.

John Scofield - Country for Old Men.  Tidal

Jazz take on some classic country songs.

This excellent 1977 jazz fusion album from "GO Go Too", featuring Stomu Yamashta, Klaus Schulze, Al Di Meola, John Peter Robinson, Al Di Meola, Linda Lewis & Jess Roden.... Perfect music for a wet cold Sunday afternoon.

Another disc from Ye Olde Floyde box. This is the first Dramatis/ation CD, from 1969.

Non-album tracks/More outtakes

   "Hollywood" (non-album track) - 1:21

"Theme" (Beat version) (Alternative version) - 5:38

"More Blues" (Alternative version) - 3:49

   "Seabirds" (non-album track) - 4:20

"Embryo" (from ‘Picnic’, Harvest Records sampler) - 4:43

BBC Radio Session, 12 May 1969

   "Grantchester Meadows" - 3:36

   "Cymbaline"- 3:38

   "The Narrow Way" - 4:48

"Green is the Colour" - 3:21

"Careful with That Axe, Eugene"- 3:26

Live at the Paradiso, Amsterdam, 9 August 1969

   "Interstellar Overdrive" - 4:20

"Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" - 12:25

Careful with That Axe, Eugene" - 10:09

   A Saucerful of Secrets" - 13:03

All I can say is... wow! Not only do we get the brilliant BBC '69 session in superb quality, but also the studio "Embryo" sounding better than it ever has before; but the Paradiso tracks and More outtakes are a revelation.

At the Paradiso - professionally recorded by the VPRO - the Floyd's vocal mics refused to work, so they played an instrumental set of quite stunning intensity. And the "Beat" version of the More theme sounds like Can or Neu! - in March 1969! Amazing!

George Thorogood & the Destroyers - The Hard Stuff.

Still rocking' with George and the Boys.

Cut and paste from a review elsewhere says it all.

"Although he has never been given the credit he deserves, George Thorogood keeps turning out blistering, paint-stripping, slide-guitar soaked rock'n'roll, with no compromise offered to prevaling trends or current fashions."

Just joyous pop music (did I just admit to playing pop music?!)

Posted on: 20 November 2016 by dave marshall

Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak.

Breaking out from the bar room rock 'n roll of George and the boys......................this..................proper rock from Phil and the bhoys..............LOUD!

Absolutely!! This is my favourite Joni album, closely followed by the studio album promoted by this show, 'Hejira'. What a band too! I really like the piece called 'Pat's Solo', which follows the brilliant 'Amelia'.

Dave, George is and always has been 'bad to the bone'. A great artist and showman. Unfairly poo-pooed by too many snooty types, I think.

Ah!!!!  memories of seeing him at Roundhay Park, Leeds, supporting the Stones in !982 (when Jack was a lad and Jip was a pup....). He and his band really ripped it up. I recommend you this :

Whoah, Wugged, I was there that memorable day too.........................great music, with the J Geils band as well.......................and much as I love the Stones, George and the boys showed them the way home that day.

And I couldn't agree more about the snooty types........................George just tells it like it is, and I'm impressed that he keeps it real, up to, and including his latter albums.

Rock on George

Quick search has failed to reveal the Beeston album..........................where can I find this one?
