Thomas Arne, Comus, Anthony Lewis, Decca, 1955, vinyl, because I'd forgotten how good early stereo recordings were.

Kiri te Kanawa, Ave Maria, Schubert, ECO Barry Rose, Phillips, 1985, vinyl, for a little bit of night music...sublime.

There is much to like about this record. New to me, but I rate it quite highly.

Yuri Gagarin

(2013)

Self-titled, psychedelic heavy space rock from this Swedish band who would probably make Hawkwind very happy.

The Vigil from Chick Corea. A very good album. With some fusion elements, but not sounding so dull as normal fusion.

Now on Yesterday you Said Tomorrow from Christian Scott. Christian is one of the most exciting, still young musicians on the scene. This album is a Jewell. It can even work for people who are a bit afraid of "modern" in modern jazz...... You feel the emotion of the music and Christian searching for meaning by playing. If you even know the background of some of the numbers you can even appreciate it more K.K.P.D. is about how black people are very often in the US treated automatically as criminals by the police.....

Another ripped from the 2009 CD box of stereo remasters and not played here for many a year.

Fish, Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors, not as good as Feast but still a very fine album and worth the money for the title track.  Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

Then Play On -  Fleetwood Mac

I don't get on with very early Fleetwood Mac, but from Then Play On onwards (including the much underrated Bob Welch years) I think they're just great. Oh Well is magnificent by FM, but  as a cover it could have been tailor made for Eels and E's personality. They just blast it live...

That video doesn't do justice to the righteous noise they make live, but you get the drift.

Martha Wainwright - Goodnight City.  Tidal.  This gets great reviews but it's not for me.   Interesting to sample though.

WellenVorm - Petrified Forest

This is a German synth outfit in an offshoot of the Berlin style. Very little sequencer stuff, plenty of dark, atmospheric sounds though, that go perfectly with a late Autumn dusk.  Very new, quite tricky to get hold of, though Dave Law's Musiczeit download site has it.

Here's the trailer video

Yep, I have to say that Then Play On has always been my favourite FM studio album (probably due to my associated great memories from around that time). Thanks for the Eels clip and WellenVorm trailer I'll have a shuffti later.

Thanks to Tony2011 for reminding me of Black Box Recorder and the fact i only have a couple of singles of theirs on some compilation albums in my collection. A trip to the big river and £6 spent, i've put that right

While XLD does it stuff, i'm listening to...

Tempo quite different - but enjoyable...
