I seem to be playing this album quite a lot lately. Nerina has a stunningly beautiful voice. Really looking forward to seeing her perform live again in April, though my composure might crack if she sings Sophia

Like Mendelssohn, Saint Saëns wrote his best works for chamber ensembles. Trio Latitude here give white-hot performances of his piano trios.

I probably picked it up from your posts, so thanks.  I have two other discs of hers I listen to with some regularity.  Thanks, Jeff A

CD rip : WAV. I know it's been remastered, but it always amazes me how music recorded 50 years ago can still sound so good.

Great album Borders Nick. I have it on vinyl and love taking it for a spin.

Love the opening track of 'Remember'. It so puts me in a happy mood.

Have you tried his Workout?  The almost same lineup as Soul Station but add Grant Green's mellow guitar work and snappy Philly Joe Jone's drums substitutes previous Art Blakey.

Hey Kuma,

Yes, I have "Workout" but on cd only not vinyl. I love me some Grant Green. I have a couple of his albums on vinyl. Quite sweet work.

Pink Floyd. Dark Side Of The Moon (1973). A 1973 Harvest label "Mastered By Capitol" pressing. I never fail to be impressed by the soundstage and imaging on this album.

Van Morrison. Moondance (1970). On WB 1973 reissue vinyl. One album I'd really like to hear an original pressing as I suspect the bass goes deeper.

RAGNARÖK.  Nice spacey, folky prog from Sweden, 1977.

I normally prefer hard bop but I have a 'Metador' as Green as a leader. I picked this one up partially because Mccoy Tyner is on piano.

Side 1 is really really good, from 1989.

Gieseking/Kuberik/Philharmonia: Beethoven Piano Concerto No.1  1948 recording

It's been a while since I play this record. Sounding much better with the Kandid which can sort things out making the piano stands out a bit more and bringing out gieseking's lucid piano tone. This is a polished Mozartian like Beethoven. It isn't my fave but certainly admire his lyricism.

plus I am a sucker for Steinweiss' album cover design from this era.

Posted on: 06 February 2016 by kuma

Yep. Kempff is still my go-to guy for Beethoven. Right amount of strength and lyricism to bring out the inner most beauty out of Beethoven's concertos for this listener.

On vinyl

Yesterday's purchase again inspired by the "Best albums of 2015..." thread. Only first play but this already sounds very good - interesting collection of pop songs.

(and just noticed this has been presented in this thread also only few hours ago)

(1986)

Although released in 1986 it's believed that theses tracks had been recorded about ten years earlier, this 2005 remaster "cleaned up" the sound.
