Time for another thirty five minutes of J.J., this one slightly rockier and less laid back than his earlier albums and includes more instruments like piano and organ.

Skids - Scared to Dance.

Kicked off this afternoon with Big Country, so, fairly obviously, this ................ sadly missed Stuart Adamson's first mainstream band.

Again, great Jock Rock.

This is very different from the version I have on Nonesuch and is very good indeed. It is part of a 3 album set that is on sale on Qobuz for about £6, which has got to be a bargain.

Killing Time

Hot from being downloaded just moments ago this 22 minute EP from Moon Duo is described like this in their bandcamp blurb:

"Under the Moon Duo moniker, Johnson and collaborator Sanae Yamada create expansive Krautrock influenced tapestries of warm cascading fuzz and controlled feedback, organ, and accenting keyboard. This four song 12-inch [was] the second release and incorporates a much more concise, composed and driving sound than before adding a driving drum machine beat behind the thick walls of layered sound."

Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane.

What a great debut album from 2002 ....................we've all heard this one before, but it's well worth re-visiting.

Switching from an early (good) and developing Moon Duo EP earlier, to Riverside's first full length release which was a super debut, their early promise remained fulfilled right through until their latest album that is...

John Martyn - Piece by Piece

Mellow, apart from the execrable John Wayne at the end of side 2. But I always lift the needle off first.

Early digital release of Denis Kozhukhin's new Brahms record (Feb 2017). The disc opens with the op. 18b theme and variations, which is based on the memorable tune from Brahms' first sextet (op. 18) and a great opener. The op. 10 ballades and the op. 116 fantasies follow. Kozhukhin once again impresses with clear-headed approach and wide dynamic range (not afraid to play softly even in the more heroic works).

Cheers,

EJ
