2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
next:
Sierra Hull - "Weighted Mind" (2016)
Bought this last week when I saw Julia in Bristol. On yellow vinyl, which Julia describes as 'camel piss yellow'

Make Some Noise - Big Big Train
Kicking back with an early beer to have a first listen to an hour or so of this two hour live album...
A Stone's Throw from the Line is of course the album title and not Make Some Noise as I originally posted which is the first track
A+ | Tidal
Just a couple of tracks into this and loving it.

Happy days indeed!
This album is a great surprise. I downloaded a set of five Charles Lloyd albums from Qobuz as they looked a bargain for £15 and I have a couple of his albums and like his playing. This is the first I've listened to: not only is it a great quartet, including the wonderful Bobo Stenson, but it has a lovely cover. I had to find the original to replace the boring reissue cover, and was surprised to see that the original is so different from the ECM house style. In fact, all five are totally different. Anyway, a super album.
1st run, sounds promising...
Oxygene 3
On first listen it's sound promising, sure it will grow on me the more i listen to it. Almost impossible to match the brilliance of the original.

Must dig that box set out again. I've neglected it for too long.
1st en on Tidal..
Prompted by dayjay's recent playing of it. When I expanded my Tori collection this was among them and quickly became my favourite Tori album. Superb.

Good of old EC to pop in for a couple of tracks and more bluesy than expected.
Not impressed with SQ and the unnecessary 4 sides but very good indeed.
Oxygene 7 - 13
24bit 48kHz - flac
While i cannot guess at the number of times i have listen to the original, i must admit it has been more than a decade since i last listen to this album.

Listened to 2 tracks then turned it off. SQ is dreadful (DR7 although DR isn't everything) and was giving me earache.
It seems to have had universally positive reviews so it must be me who's deaf or immune to its charm.

Nope sq is pretty awful but music is brilliant. Certainly their best album in years.
My take on the SQ is that the "rough and ready" edge to things takes me back the sound I was getting from their first album in 1963, played to death on my Dansette.
Nostalgia rules!
Rammstein - Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da
In a pretty angry mood, so the only cure is turn it up to "deafening" and put this on. So many highlights, including the x-rated Pussy, but I love the video for Haifisch, where Till is dead and James Hetfield is pencilled in to replace...
Diana Krall - Wallflower.
Why? Do you need to ask?
Oxygene
24bit 48kHz - flac
know for something completely different, arrived this morning, last one for the night.
Caledonia Cantata
16bit 44.1 - flac

I was in LA for Philharmonic and bought my favorite composer CDs, I could have cheapened out on Amazon but support is needed. Drove 2 hours out to the desert at 75MPH this AM listening to Atomic Symphony with gusty winds in my yellow chariot. Closest description is a Surrealist soundscape of creatures battling and quiet moments of ethereal doom. Clusters of strings like birds and monster brass and percussion, is this psychedelic? I saw the Met opera but this seems wholly different, I think it cycled at least 4 times, can't change CDs on a Short Ride in a Fast Machine.
Downloaded this a couple of days ago from Qobuz. Getting quite a few plays. Highly recommended.
Sid(sic) Barrett - Unforgotten Hero
Vinyl...

I had a Dansette as well Dave and hard wired an extra speaker to mine. I can still hear it today.
