My take on the SQ is that the "rough and ready" edge to things takes me back the sound I was getting from their first album in 1963, played to death on my Dansette.

Nostalgia rules!

I had a Dansette as well Dave and hard wired an extra speaker to mine. I can still hear it today.

Ah, happy days!

Seriously though, the slightly dodgy SQ does indeed remind me of the raw edge to their sound back then.

It's more than likely just my imagination, but, like yourself, I can still hear that first Stones album, and "Blue & Lonesome" recaptures that excitement better than most of their subsequent ones.

Diana Krall - Wallflower.

Why? Do you need to ask?

Yeah, go on, why? It's always seemed a duff effort.

..........  agreed,  yes its her mellow golden voice,  superb piano, all pitch perfect & a faultless production,  but for me its a little too laid back & easy listening,  dare I say boring.      "Live in Paris" is her best

1st run, exciting trio...

A strange disc, very captivating even for someone totally uninterested in 21st century, easy listening piano like me. Full of concrete and haunting noises tied to the piano's, in a very evoking way. The first time I played it, it stirred some feelings and memories.

Just for some Season Cheerfulness.

(Released today 2nd)

Make Some Noise - Big Big Train

Kicking back with an early beer to have a first  listen to an hour or so of this two hour live album...

A Stone's Throw from the Line is of course the album  title and not Make Some Noise as I originally posted which is the first track

I have the studio version of this from my earlier prog excursions. Giving this a quick blast before heading out.  Pretty good sound for a live recording of fairly complex music.  Good shout Stevee.

So after dipping in a couple of times and now listening to it in full again. This is a winner, wow impressed that the guys thought of pulling this off. The rather bad sound quality, in a way is evening part of the charm of the album. If you stopped buying Rolling Stones albums because you only liked the early Stones,......, get this one again.....

Schubert String Quintet.

1978 Vinyl.

Melos Quartet + mStislav Rostropovich.

... the players are in a circle around me ... wonderful

Earlier had Mozart Symphonies 40 and 41 with Karl Bohm and the Vienna Philharmonic from the 80's I think, on vinyl too.

What a wonderful presentation with the orchestra laid out in front of me with all the instruments in their correct places and balanced beautifully - great production.

Older productions seem to be so much better to me both in classical and rock - or is that just nostalgia.

I would agree that this DK album is a little on the commercial side but I do enjoy listening to some classic covers with the DK treatment. Not her best but I enjoy it. 'The Girl in the Other Room' remains my favourite DK album. Don't really know why, just is.

Hi Nigel,  don't get me wrong Diana gets a regular spin in this house & Wallflower is one of the regulars.  If you like DK & classic covers/american songbook stuff,  you need to check out her album "All for You"  its a dedication to the Nat King Cole Trio .....  Errand Girl for Rhythm,  Frim Fram Sauce,  Boulevard of Broken Dreams & Hit That Jive Jack to list but a few.    Might put that on the menu for tonite,  along with the grape juice & some robust cheeses.
