2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

Blues & Lonesome - The Stones: This LP just grows and grows on me. I am now on my forth play this weekend!
Richard
Only your fourth play?
Must try harder.
Seriously though, even the folks on here who were initially remarking on the perceived poor sound quality, are now "getting it".
An off the cuff 3 day recording session, which harks back to the early rough and ready Stones at their best.............their best album in decades, IMHO.
Stuart McCallum/Mike Walker: The Space Between. Just released. Tidal.
Two guitar masters, Metheny-ish in parts. Mellow.
Thin Lizzy - Black Rose.
Their last great album before the band imploded .................. TURN it up!
Elvis Costello - This Year's Model
Great early Elvis. CD
Rolling Stones - Blue and Lonesome.
Yet again, for the umpteenth time ............ why? ....................'cos it just gets better with each listen.
Could well be my album of the year.
AFAIK this double CD set seems to be the only currently available source for the (excellent) version of 'The North Star Grassman and the Ravens' performed by Fotheringay.
(2006) CD Very nicely performed Christmas carols.
Inspired by @Yetizone's recommendation for Kraftwerk's The Man-Machine here are two mid 70's Kraftwerk albums i have enjoyed this afternoon - if I am honest Radio-activity is the strongest and most atmospheric and sounds superb on a Naim system
And here is Trans-Europe Express - getting a bit more rhythmic and dance oriented and less for drug induced trances
Gary Numan, The Pleasure Principle, just for Cars. Flac via Audirvana/Hugo
Bennie Wallace: Someone to watch over me:
Rite of Spring by Stravinsky
Herbert von Karajan / Berlin phil
vinyl.
First time this has really flowed for me, always liked it for the excitement but now it seems to have gained coalescence as a piece of music.
Simon-in-Suffolk - Kraftwerk trance = explains some posts in other threads
The Skids - Scared to Dance
On CD from the Virgin Box Set
Status Quo - Rocking All Over the Years.
We seem to be of the opinion that the latest Stones album heralds a "back to basics" approach, so .............this ............rock on, .......LOUDLY!
HQ files. SQ is still not great but better than the cd.
Will also get this one

Ewen,
Is it just my ears, or do some of the tracks (ripped CD version), appear to be in mono?
If so, this might explain the perceived poor SQ versus raw excitement of old, depending on which side of the fence one sits, re. The Stones.
So, it's either my imagination, or, if it truly is in mono, I'm just a bit slower to grasp what is obvious to everyone else.
Just the ticket for a cold winters night. This album, with the lights dim, fire on and a cheeky glass of something warming.
A rather lovely album and very well recorded too
Katie Melua - In Winter
Because sometimes I like to hear strings, and only strings.
