After twice listening to a 16 bit rip of a little known Moby album 'A night in NYC' (it's a really good introduction to the very best of Moby) I've moved on to MP3 downloads from Apple of assorted Nazareth tracks. This Scottish heavy rock band was the reason I got into rock music in the first place and sounds as fresh as it did back in the late 70s.

Downloaded a few months ago this seems like a good quiet time of the morning to queue this up and give the hi-res Linn recording an outing.

Suzanne Vega. 99.9 FÂș. On CD from 1992. I've had a couple sets of speakers home recently for demo and am finding this album stellar as a reference CD. It's an AAD recording with outstanding resolution, depth and subtleties to the mix. There is a wonderful synergy between Suzanne's vocal delivery and interplay with the bass lines. All makes for an album absolutely packed with PRaT.

I'd not appreciated The Pogues to a great degree when i was younger but tastes change and i really like this album.

'Fairytale Of New York' was a song i'd always disliked until a few years back until i listened to it properly and it has now become a firm favourite. It's just a superb song - Joyous but sad, and all the more poignant with the loss of Kirsty MacColl.

In the mood to listen to his great voice for a while and this early album will do nicely.

HQ files. SQ is still not great but better than the cd.

Ewen,

Is it just my ears, or do some of the tracks (ripped CD version), appear to be in mono?

If so, this might explain the perceived poor SQ versus raw excitement of old, depending on which side of the fence one sits, re. The Stones.

So, it's either my imagination, or, if it truly is in mono, I'm just a bit slower to grasp what is obvious to everyone else.

Only been listening to it on my computer system at the moment .  Will give it a closer listen tomorrow when I have more time Dave and let you know.

Ummagumma is my favourite Pink Floyd album, and this 1970s Japanese pressing is my go-to vinyl version.

A super album from Charles Lloyd, re-released as part of the Quartets box set.
