The more I listen to it the more it disappoints, gliding towards mediocrity.  Must be me and the political environment around here.

12 " version?  Mine could do with replacing, well played over the years.

Yes Nic, that's the 12" with "Boys" on the B side. Try to find one of those white label limited edition pressings. They are still some out there.

Jim Croce. You Don't Mess Around With Jim. On early original vinyl from 1972. Funky American folk-based pop with wonderful SQ. Full of acoustic timbre and those tight, tuneful, bouncy bass lines that summon the PRaT.

Had to play same tonight. Later pressing I think.

Hi R.K.,

I don't know about the UK pressings. In the US, the reissue LPs are easy to spot as they have a "Time In The Bottle Sticker" on the cover. I've got copies of each and the original ABC Records black label is superior to the later pressing. I find that's typically the case with reissues, FWIW. The important thing is that you're enjoying the music. I think it's Big Jim's best album and "Operator" is my favorite song from him. Cheers!

The Best Of The Alan Parsons Project. On vinyl from 1983. I suppose it's a given that the recording and SQ is exemplary. Tight. Creative music as well.

Live Rust Album

Back in the day I attended a midnight showing of the 'Live Rust' movie with my high school chums. Bought the album the next day. Been hooked on NY ever since.

A+ | Transcoded DSD

(1984)

Time for an old favourite and this one is from the excellent remaster in 2011 by the Esoteric Recordings label; playing ripped disc one.

"On the 10th December 1983 Edgar Froese, Chris Franke and Johannes Schmolling performed a legendary concert in the Ice Stadium in Warsaw - a unique event, given the political situation in Poland at the time. The resulting live album was issued as a double LP set on the Jive Electro label the following year to great acclaim.

Of all the subsequent CD releases of the album, only two early editions, released in the USA & Germany, featured the full unedited version of the original double LP.

This Esoteric recordings edition fully restores the entire unedited double LP version to compact disc and includes a lavishly illustrated deluxe booklet with new essay."

I started listening to this in my car on the way in to work and carried on when i got to my desk.

It's still a gorgeous album, my favourite out of all PG's work and still sounds fresh, 30 years on.

The Stones, doing what they've always done best. Groovy! Best album they've done in ages.

R L Burnside - Mississippi Hill Country Blues.

A fine album of acoustic blues, from an under-appreciated artist, who did at least manage to pass on a legacy which continues to this day, in the shape of the North Mississippi Allstars.

The Kinks' famous Black Album, a collection of hits and singles, released in 1970. this is from the new all-analogue mono vinyl box set.

While not as revelatory as the Beatles' set of 2014 (I'm guessing Ray, Dave, Pete and Mick weren't as well recorded as John, Paul, George and Ringo), this presents some very familiar tunes in the best SQ I've heard it in. Satisfyingly raw and immediate.

George Thorogood and the Destroyers - Live In Boston.

Following a recommendation on here, this is quite possibly the best of their many live albums.

I've got a shedload of George's great albums, but there's little doubt that the band is at their best, as here, live and LOUD!
