What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
During my workout. Good especially the last song...
Jackson Browne - The Naked Ride Home. CD rip.
Just back from a run and relaxing to this one. The production is very good.
Muddy Waters - Folk Singer
I think it's the Mobile Fidelty version that I ripped to the NS01 and am now streaming through NDS. It certainly sounds very good. One can only imagine how good this would sound on vinyl.
Quicksilver Messenger Service - Happy Trails (24/192)
I've nearly lost count of the versions I've had of this, another of my Desert Island Discs, but I couldn't resist the Qobuz 24/192 version (Sublime discounted)...and it's fantastic. The way it opens up the interplay between the two guitars on Mona (Gary to the left, John growling away right), and the emotion in Gary Duncan's voice...swoon. Made me plump for the Hi-res version of the 1st QMS on there.
What a shame they only fitfully reached these heights thereafter. Would love to hear a tarted up version of Shady Grove - the Duncanless follow up that had some good tunes but was fearfully muddy (best I've got apart from the original LP is a Japanese SHM).
Playing this today in memory of Greg Lake, whose death was announced this week. The word 'masterpiece' is, perhaps, used too often, but it certainly applies in this case. I had forgotten just how brilliant this is.
On Cd
It's a pity that Naim does not seem to produce albums like this anymore… I miss the old Naim label.
Chris Rea - Auberge, CD rip.

Ok, it's fashionable to pour scorn on this album ..................... but, who among us didn't love it, back in the day ............. c'mon, own up!
Theatrically overblown, completely bonkers, over the top crazy vaudeville rock - brilliant ! But isn’t that the point?
I have a huge amount of affection for this album and will always have a copy, as it reminds me of one of my closest school friends who seemed to play this endlessly. Sadly he passed away far too young when in his prime and I still miss him greatly.
But even at that young age he helped me to realise that sometimes its good to have a sense of humour when listening to music.
I’ll give this a bast today!
Fabulous album, over the top Steiman production, superb lyrics. We listen to it over and over. Not played it for ages. A pop music version of ELP.
Playing this classic of its time to show respect towards Greg Lake RIP.
1970 UK 6-track LP on the Island pink rimmed 'palm tree' label.
For the same reason:
After a stupidly busy week at work, this is the first opportunity i've had to sit down and listen to my home system.
With a large G&T in hand, starting with this...
Ray LaMontagne - Gossip In The Grain
This whilst putting the Christmas tree up...
PHIL SPECTOR A Christmas Gift For You (1963 first UK issue 13-track deep groove mono vinyl LP.

This time of a year you're allowed to like Phil Spector.
Bette Midler (& James Caan) - music on the 1991 CD from the pic 'For The Boys'. Some nice sounding tracks on here.

It surprised me to find that this was released more than three years ago, well played and beautifully sung, super stuff and a great debut .
Like others, I thought I'd play this in memory of you know who. My first ELP album.
Another recommendation from this forum. Lovely album. CD rip.

Mike I did the same thing when I heard the sad news and this their debut was the first album I reached for. Sadly I did the same back in March when Keith Emerson died.

Great album - one of my faves. On the playlist for later
This really is a hauntingly beautiful album. I've always liked Katie Melua's voice, but now free of Mike Batt, she's finally making the music she always should have been. Icing on the cake - it's a superb recording too.
Katie Melua - In Winter

Good summary James let's hope she can move on from here.
Sticking with the Lost Highway label. Lucinda Williams Live at the Filmore. CD rip.

A more "commercial" sound from Simon Posford on this one, although there is a shift in style it remains a good album in his body of work.
