2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
Following...., first impressions good....
Up & Down
Originating from a Japanese concert, this CD from M-A teams together pianist Milcho Leviev in duets with superb bassist Dave Holland. The music ranges from variations of standards to more introspective interplay and stimulating originals by the duo. A great album for all times.
Got an old vinyl of this (when records were made properly) -- played it earlier today -- wow!
enjoy...

The Watchers-Sabbath Highway
some stoner rock via Tidal
Red Fang-Only Ghosts
Rah Band: Clouds Across the Moon --> El Coco Cocomotion
Runway music from Chanel Paris Cosmopolite 2016/17 Métiers d'Art show at the Ritz.
I see disco is still in vogue in France.
P.S. I so want that pearl neckless Pharrel Williams is wearing! (4:18 )
The Best Of The Boomtown Rats. On CD from 2005. Maybe somewhat of a forgotten band, but very good in their time and place. Well worth an annual spin.

Nice post rock, based on a recommendation on this forum...
Ocean Colour Scene - B-sides, Seasides & Freerides
Mainly because I want to hear Chelsea Walk, which has always seemed to me about as close as anyone could get to The Stones' As Tears Go By

2011 - Vinyl...
I have just taken delivery (from Japan) of a newly released SHM-CD of Full Moon Fever by Tom Petty. SQ is stunning. This is only the second of these I have invested in to date (only heard about them a couple of months back) - the other being Brothers in Arms which is also far better than the original CD release - but I think I might get some more as I am very impressed.
This, my first listen to a record from the Stones In Mono LP box set which came yesterday. I know it was never released in "true" mono, and that this this is a fold-down, but it sounds fantastic. LIB is my fave Stones LP, and I am enjoying this more right now than I ever have before.
Their first album, from the mono vinyl box set. Sounding good - raw, immediate, very "live" - if perhaps a teensy bit harsh on the treble for my tastes:

I have to agree that these Japanese SHM - CD releases are excellent, though I'm still unsure as to why they should sound so much better than the originals.
My first experience of these was the Led Zeppelin box set, which still, to my ears at least, sound so much better than any of the subsequent remastering releases.
Georgia Ruth - Fossil Scale
Time for some boogie music, CD rip:-
ZZ Top - Rancho Mexicano

Yes I agree some of them are very good indeed and do improve on the original CDs, I can no longer compare them to vinyl. I like the LZ box set and have a few others ranging from Dire Straits and Elton John's Blue Moves through to Wishbone Ash and Argus etc. and they are all a joy a worth the outlay.
