2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

Stevee_S posted:Haim Ronen posted:"A Meeting by the River can best be described as a spontaneous outpouring of music, unhindered by convention or form, brought into being by musicians so supremely capable that the music is never labored, the technique of their craft always subservient to the final product. Cooder and Bhatt are genuine masters of the guitar and mohan vina, respectively. The latter, an instrument created by Bhatt himself, is a sort of hybrid between a guitar and a vichitra vina, and is played with a metal slide. This fact is just one of the many things that connect Bhatt's playing to Cooder's, who plays nothing but bottleneck guitar here. The musical interplay between Cooder and Bhatt is nothing short of astounding, especially so considering that they met for the first time only a half-hour before the recording of this album." Haim, I tried to listen to this the other day via your link but it is restricted and not playable in the UK. i will try and find it elsewhere or just go and buy the album if I can. I so enjoy good exponents of the Mohan Veena, what a wonderful sound. If you don't know him already, do try Harry Manx who is a great exponent of it.
Cheers

ELO's Greatest Hits (1979). On CD from 1986. I've been on a compilation CD listening binge of late and this one is superb. Jeff Lynne was a master at producing a unique brand of "top ten" pop/rock tracks and each one here gets my toe tapping. Back in the day I listened to ELO's albums on 8-track, but no loss of engagement here on CD today.

I find my thoughts drifting back in time by the image you paint. Maybe it's through rose tinted spectacles, but life seemed so much easier then.
But that was pre- Radikal too!
1963 - Tidal...
The Royal Scam - Steely Dan
On CD
Just seems to me the right album at this time of day
Spurred on by Ewemon's post yesterday - giving this sample track from his upcoming album a run on a Tidal. Hmm.. I have been a massive Ryan Adams fan over the years but I struggle with his later stuff (after Ashes and Fire).
Ry Cooder & Ali Farka Toure - Talking Timbuktu. Tidal.
Fat Dave, on five LPs:
1970 - Original vinyl...
This December reissue from Music Matters. It is a tremendous album from Horace and the boys..

"A rare custom pressed CD issued May 2002 to mark the closure of EMIs CD pressing plant in Swindon. These were made in very limited quantities & presented to factory staff members. This title was chosen as it was the first CD manufactured at the plant. The custom pressed CD has the words Dark Side Of The Moon - First And Last - EMI Swindon 1986-2002 in the matrix area." They also came with a picture booklet and numbered certificate, unfortunately when I bought this the certificate had long gone.
An excellent recording of famous and less famous carols, which avoids the syrup through spicy harmonic arrangements that occasionally border on the atonal. Highly recommended.
