sincerely since a long timeage ago. New album by The Wedding Present. Any good ?

No idea Tobes, can't stand The Wedding Present so have no interest in their latterday activities (or indeed anything they do).

Serge Gainsbourg - Histoire de Melody Nelson

Fond memories of a coast road night drive to Exeter in my Mk2 GTi to see my then gf, and listening to this on Stuart Maconie's R2 programme.

Lyle Lovett - I Love Everybody.

Bonkers and brilliant in equal measure.

An old vinyl re-issue

Why? Thought I would blow the dust off of this old timer and it still makes the grade.

From 1981, this is on CD (the first issue, via Restless, in 1992). By the time this masterpiece was released, Yellow Magic Orchestra were coming up alongside Kraftwerk, and by the following year had possibly eclipsed them. With its poineering use of samplers, tongue-in-cheek cultural references, woozy sequencers, dark humour and with Hosono's nimble bass playing upping the funk quotient, Technodelic was a standout album of the 1980s.

Nancy Sinatra - The Very Best Of

Well, I was listening to Lloyd Cole & The Commotions Mainstream, which quotes from These Boots Are Made For Walking so this Autralian comp got the nod (it's got a great selection and outstanding sound quality). I know she had a head start in her career and Lee Hazlewood on her team, but she carries it all off so well. Apart from the obvious hits I love Lightning's Girl for the psychy feel...and a great fuzz bass.

Today's arrival, a used xrcd copy. Initially I was going to order the Harry Allen disc playing the same music of Johnny Mandel with the Jan Lundgren Quartet but then I opted for the older stuff from 1984. Gorgeous playing as well as sound.

Vanilla Fudge - Near The Beginning

Led here by their cover of Some Velvet Morning (in a traditional Fudge style). This was their fourth album, probably their best produced, with a great side one and a so-so side two - recorded live while they were all tripping their heads off. Wasn't a great idea lads. However, worth it for side one...

This starts off slowly (as they do) but heavies into a great solo from Vince Martell, so bear with it.

(2015)

Originally downloaded as a 24/44.1, Mark Shrives who is Redshift releasing his first solo album since 2008. "The whole album is heavy with layered sequencing and (very) subsonic bass parts and while there are sometimes familiar sounds present there are also many less obvious choices in instrumentation." Instrumental, electronic, dark and spacey.
