2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
1989 - Vinyl - U.K. Pressing...
Time to play another xmas present, Kings of Leon - Walls:
Vinyl
e.s.t. - Tuesday Wonderland. CD rip.
Followed by e.s.t. - Leucocyte- CD rip. Rather heavier and much more experimental than the previous one. A posthumous release after the death of Esbjorn Svensson in 2008.
The festive break wouldn't be complete without giving this gorgeous and emotionally-charged album a play. Looking forward to Nerina's new album in 2017.

Live to radio set from veteran British Blues man Kim Simmonds and Savoy Brown. Featuring among five others, Spoonful, Hellbound Train, and Going Down To Mobile.
1966 - Vinyl - U.K. Mono - First pressing...
I cannot for the life of me find the original cover of this album. All I have left is the record. It must have been one hell of a party.
You'll find it hanging on some friend's wall in one of those 12" x 12" Ikea frames..

Gracie, Max. My friends, the ones still alive, don't hang original vinyl on walls and don't go to IKEA either. They find their shops too colourful and say they must be the idea of some Scandinavian hippy who got lost in the 60's. Also, they hardly leave their houses as well. They blame it on some strange tea they drank back in the 70's. A lot f strange things used to happen in those days including vinyl covers disappearing.

After their really excellent radio session Hellbound Train (played earlier) a little more by the boys from Battersea is needed. Its hard to believe that these lads got little recognition here yet went down really well in the U.S. of A touring constantly to packed houses.
A young(er) Martin Helmchen in Mozart's #13 & 24.
Cheers

I have this on the original vinyl
This album, especially The Race, seems to persuade my stereo system that it is really 5.1, such are effects and soundstage.

What an album. No superlatives to describe it!

So do I, it's an excellent album and cover art.

A happy new year to you Gianluigi, I do like and appreciate the way that you take the time to photograph and post the vinyl you are playing. Cheers, Steve.
Another entry in Sony's remastered Leontyne Price series. The original CD issue suffers from a bad transfer of what must be mediocre source material to begin with, and had a constricted top that holds back sibilance to the point where everyone seemed to wear braces, and even this otherwise quite spectacular upgrade can't change that.
As far as the performance is concerned, it's on a very high level overall and dominated by a majestic Pryce in the role she was born to sing, and Domingo who in his early thirties makes up for some shallow characterisation with a glorious voice. Leinsdorf is straightforward but solid, and is greatly helped by the updated sound.
If you enjoy Aida, don't miss this performance.
Cheers,
EJ

Thanks a lot Steve! Only a way to make it more "live" and....."domestic"?
A great new year to you and your beloved!
