Never heard this through a good installation, triggered by a rip I am making right now. While kind of musac, still having some fine moments as well

I think I can understand your feelings about Brad Mehldau. I heard him live a few summers ago, and I have a fistful of his CDs. In the end, to my ears it sounds like those long novels from young new writers, full of things and forgettable. As for Keith Jarrett, I'll take just one thing of his along on the desert island, his encore of Danny boy on the Tokyo Solo live DVD.
I'll have a listen at this Haden/Anderson duo.

Massimo,
To take your analogy, most of Mehldau's music is to me like stories which I don't care about the plot nor their characters. Just the other day I watched a long interview with him on TV which made me go and play his music again with the same results. The only enjoyable recording of his that I have (out of five) is: Songs: The art of trio Vol 3.
Chris Anderson on the other hand is in a different league despite having a limited output. He was born almost blind with very fragile bones that fractured often. He began in Chicago clubs in the mid -1940s and performed with Von Freeman and Charlie Parker. None But The Lonely Heart recording session was the first (and I think last) time the two musicians played together. I find the level communication between the two to be very rare. They were playing this particular disc the first time I walked into a Naim dealership while hunting for a new music system. I bought it on the spot and their Nait 3 four weeks later.
A Russian affair with talented Lubimov on the piano.
Queen, A Kind of Magic, really good album from a great film. Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

In my opinion Brad Mehldau is highly overrated. The only partly enjoyable recording I own of him is Mehliana Taming the Dragon.
I have a few CDs of him, the only one I play regularly is Live in Tokyo:
to me, this is not overly-intellectualised, it's deeply felt and slightly obsessive. His Someone to watch over me is worth the CD alone.
Giving my Christmas purchases a listen.
Thanks to Nigelb for the heads up on this one. Very nice

"Manx's use of the Mohan Veena makes him stand out from the crowd... it's surprising how comfortably his clean, Canadian blues sit with traditional Indian music."

earlier (ripped CD); inspired by previous posts . Charlie Haden - Chris Anderson - None but the lonely heart

You are just calling out his worst recording. I have a lot of good music of Brad Mehldau. He stays one of my favorite jazz musicians...
