Started working through Xmas presents this afternoon/evening ...

on vinyl:

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood

Had heard a couple of tracks but never listened to an album before - VG, classic guitar.

On CD, ripped to my US:

Rag 'n Bone Man - Wolves.

A suggestion from the forum - thank you - a great percussive album not in my usual genre but I love it

Leonard Cohen - Popular Problems.

I have all his previous studio albums but had missed this one (and his last one should be arriving tomorrow) - more accompanied poet than singer in this one but his usual really strong texts are, IMO, beautifully produced and it will be going back on to play soon.

Jules Holland - Piano.

Have never listened to one of his CDs before but like him on the telly - listenable but disappointing in its production values IMO - compressed and a bit muddy - piano also lacks a little in tonal variety but a good listen for all that.

Still to listen to Woodstock and Woodstock II which I bought myself for sentimental reasons - getting to that time of life when one likes to reminisce - and I am one of the few truthful ones that admits he was never at Woodstock - I was only 14 and my mum wouldn't let me

Hope you are all enjoying similar goodies from your Xmas stockings too,

Allan

In my opinion Brad Mehldau is highly overrated. The only partly enjoyable recording I own of him is Mehlia

You are just calling out his worst recording. I have a lot of good music of Brad Mehldau. He stays one of my favorite jazz musicians...

You're right. After verification I rate it behind Alone Together and Metheny Mehldau. Those are the only three I own or care to own.

The Strolling Bones - Let It Bleed, from the mono boxset.

These mono reissues just get better and better the more they are listened to.

I seem to be developing something of an obsession with these.

Paul Simon  -  (L) "Graceland" (1986) ;  (R) "Rhythm Of The Saints" (1990)  back to back, classic music

More from the mono boxset ................. these reissues really are the mutt's nuts.

It really was a small Charade, the disc getting lost on its way from Japan and waiting for two and a half months for the second copy to arrive. On top of the music I love the larger paper jackets and their exquisite art work of the Japanese discs.

1971 - Vinyl - UK First pressing...

Mr Marshall's posts have put me in the mood to listen to "Can't You Hear Me Knocking"? Ok, I'll listen to the whole album then.

Perfect last album on this cold, foggy, winters night. Such a beautiful voice and one i must try to see live in 2017.

Will check them out as I always try to keep an open mind to other people's suggestions. Now try and convince me that John Scofield is entertaining...

RUSH-  Caress of Steel

Side 2 is some of my favourite Rush music

I agree they were just starting to get their prog together. Listening on the recapped 250 is an even better treat.

Pink Floyd. Animals (1977). On Capitol Records 1992 CD remaster. While I find each PF album brilliant in it's own right, a key interest for me here is Gilmour's consistent lead style throughout; a direct, harsh phrasing versus any of his more sustained, velvety texturing. I think that style provides a great cohesion and drive to the album as a whole and it rocks top to bottom.

A+ | Transcoded DSD

Yet another fine Tangerine Tree project album, this, like most others, is taken from a well recorded audience master tape in the Bataclan during happier times.

How to finish 2016? Continuing in a progressive wave with Camel. I suspect this will be played more than once today.
