Always wonder what would have happened to Dire Straits sound if Vince had accepted the offer to join the band.

" Second, blast from the past but re-issued in 2014 and I finally caught up with it on vinyl.  Talk about electronic music that is ahead of its time - by about 40 years.  Can you believe that he did this in 1976?"

Jean Michel Jarre

Agreed surely one of the all time great electronic music albums, if you like Jean Michel Jarre and want something new  i can recommend his latest album

Electronica 1: The Time Machine

Just remember that this is a collaboration album with 15 other artists, so some of the songs may not be quite what you would expect from Mr Jarre.

James Taylor "Before This World"

Didn't much care for this album when I first heard it Jeff but have to say it has grown on me.

Still growing on me.  I enjoy James' music, this included, but I haven't "connected" with it strongly yet (similar to Ray LaMontagne's Supernova). But average JT for me is in the upper levels of enjoyment and I have so many others when I need them.

re: Dave Matthews Band "Crash"

The second of the two Dave Matthews Band albums I've borrowed from a friend. I think I prefer this to Under The Table And Dreaming.

The last song, Proudest Monkey, is a bit of a replay test.  Lots going on in the background, subtle acoustic sounds mingling with horns, etc.  A personal favorite (whole album) listened to frequently.  You should try some of the many DMB live recordings, lots of variations on the originals never played exactly the same twice.  And Carter Beaufort is a master percussionist.  Their DVDS are excellent.  regards, Jeff A

Fricsay/RIAS Symphony Orchestra, Berlin: Stravinsky Le Sacre du Printemps 1954 recording

A whole lot better than a later DG CD reissue in terms of fidelity in spite this is a fake stereo. Much more enjoyable but it still does not remedy lack of tension and nervous energy this piece needs.

Beck. Morning Phase. On vinyl from 2014. An audio watercolor by a gifted artist.

My wife was drawn into the listening room during Beck's Morning Phase. I guess Saturday night TV is getting boring, even for her. We're enjoying these female artists together, stuff I know she likes ....

It's becoming apparent to me that I need to bolster my Knopfler solo album holdings.

Thanks for the motivation chaps. Strait to the "K" bin next time I'm digging through used CDs.

Here is a list I would recommend all of them. In the order listed.

Solo albums

Larry, thanks for the response. Interesting you've got them prioritized in chronological order. The only album not on your list is the one that I have - "All The Roadrunning" (2006). Should be easy for me to start filling in the gaps. Might make a batch order of all the used CDs on your list and save myself some shipping. Cheers!

Started the morning with Pollini to check my concert experiences of last night. While I am not a fan of him in the pieces he clearly was a mile away from what I head in th concert yesterday evening.

At the end of the year a lot of reviews had this one on the top or close to the top of the list. Reason enough for me to give it another try. Initially I couldn't get enough access to this. So I am now in the middle of the Bach Goldberg variations. And while it still will not be my favorite version, it speaks more to me right now. Let's see what happens with the others - or if I switched away before as it was too much...
