Simon & Garfunkel. Wednesday Morning, 3AM (1964). On vinyl from the Collected Works (1981). I'm a big fan of Paul Simon and some of S&G. This album is a bit too folksy schmolksy for my taste, not to mention that two Jews singing "Go Tell It On The Mountain" and "Benedictus" seems pretty odd.

Simon & Garfunkel. Sounds Of Silence (1966). On vinyl from the Collected Works (1981). This album is much more appealing to me.

Led Zeppelin. Houses Of The Holy (1973). Jimmy Page, George Marino CD remaster from 1994. Pretty good album

Klemperer/Philharmonia: Mendelssohn Symphony No.3 'Scotch'  1960 recording

Expressive and soulful than many. Particularly his Hebrides Overture.

Klemperer creates this gigantic vivid sea scape as if one has been transported to this mystical place.  The music keeps moving constantly in terms of tempo, textures and shifts in dynamics. I’ve a feeling Klemperer’s making this early composers tune much better than it is turning a simple tune to a large pictorial masterpiece.

Led Zeppelin IV (1971).  Jimmy Page, George Marino CD remaster from 1994. Continuing my LZ listening with another classic.

Dudamel/Vienna Phil: Mendelssohn Symphony No.3  2011 recording

Compared to Klemperer or Maag’s this set dose not have the same level of sophistication or spirit and sounds a tad sat on. Especially the last half,  there isn’t much of build up to the finale.  A bit of sameness going on with lack of expressions from each instrument. The biggy is strings losing tension at the right time. The fiddle section has no feeling even in the adagio and he hesitates just before the last notes on finale. Not sure what’s that about?

I's pretty good as live digital recording, but lacking spaciousness and lower midrange resonance. Not even comparable to the old EMI recording ( Klemperer ) or London STS ( Maag ) in terms of dynamics and colours.

Very much of its time and getting a play out of curiosity and nostalgia.
