2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
I finally got around to buying a copy on vinyl as it regularly gets good write ups. First listen tonight, and oh dear, what a disappointment. There are a few good tracks, but overall not for me!
Good collection of rarities and unreleased gems from the Dame, from the "Five Years" vinyl box:
Picked this recommendation up sometime ago on the forum. Very pleasant feel to it. Tidal.

Yes indeed - I acquired the CD a few years ago and couldn't really understand why it is considered a classic. Fortunately I seem to recall that it was a free giveaway with the Guardian around 2005 ! I think I also got Stevie Wonder's Innervisions via the same route
Likewise!
First official CD release of the Opening Night on February 7, 1966 and March 21, 1966 recordings endorsed by the estates of Thad Jones & Mel Lewis. 2-CD set features previously unheard and unreleased live recordings from the Village Vanguard.
Modern big band jazz doesn't get any better then this.
Dave
On vinyl. Great indy rock from the mid 80s.
Future Islands "On The Water"
Vince Gill
Guitar Slinger
Ewemon
Another brilliant album, i download it this morning from Qobus as i was inpatient and could not wait for the delivery from a famous online retailer, and i agree "Threaten me with Heaven" stunning track, i played it twice and had to stop myself from putting it on repeat and remind myself that there are nine other tracks to listen to.
I have ordered two other albums from said online retailer as they where going for a barging price.
Souvenirs
I Still Believe in You
Again thank you for bring this artist to my attention, i have had a brilliant weekend listing to his music.
I will have to wait till Monday to listing to Rodney Crowell, again thank you for the recommendations.
"Basically his band has provided the core of Mark Knopflers unit for a number of years".
That explains why i have taken to Vince's music on first listen an why it feels so right, Mark is my favorite solo artist at the moment, i saw Mark live in the Hydro in Glasgow last march great concert.

Alan Hull - Pipedream - excellent album. Good original songs, written and performed by an incredibly talented guy. Unfortunately another true artist taken from us way too early!
John Hiatt "Terms Of My Surrender"
Fancied something Nordically chilly. Arve Henriksen, Strjon, on vinyl, from the Solidification box set:
In a word: sumptuous.

Yes Wenger that is the Alan Hull who was in lindisfarne. This was a solo album he did. As also posted others in the band went off to form jack the Ladd, whose lead vocalist was Billy Mitchell. After several iterations of the band after the original 5 members reformed, Billy became the lead vocalist of Lindisfarne and did 2 albums Promamade and Here comes the neighbourhood, both excellent albums with some amazing talent, in the form of Billy, Dave Hull-Denholm (hulls son in law) and Ian Thompson. Incidently Dave and Ian are currently finishing recording an album of Alan Hulls previously unpublished work. After chatting with them on Facebook it seems they are trying to get it released on 'non-floppy vinyl' as well as CD. Looking forward to that!
