Broken tracks in Naim App playlists

Posted by: Silence Kills on 03 January 2016

Having a playlist feature in the Naim App is a nice feature. But for me, it is completely useless.

Unfortunately, I loose all my tracks from time to time in all playlists. All tracks are broken then, showing a red cross icon.

I don't know how this happens. I just tried to restart the UPnP Server and did an update. But this doesn't break a just created playlist.

I am using the latest Minimserver and Minimstreamer on OS X and the Naim App with iOS.

Does anyone knows how does this happens and how to avoid playlists from breaking?

I just ripped a new CD and added it to the Minimserver folder and rescanned it. Now the playlist is broken.

What is the purpose of playlists if they break every time I add new music and rescan it?

Any updates from the Naim side on this? (Last post from simoncn):

Hi,

I have had this issue from day one. I've given up creating playlists. Not sure where/why there is a problem I also use Ipeng and have never had the issues that the Naim app suffers. Would be interested to hear from others? But then navigation within Ipeng is so much easier than in the Naim app and "thats" an old argument that has never gone away.

I've had the broken tracks problem on Naim app playlists occasionally in the past. I now manage playlists on my NAS/UPnP Server instead. This works well, and the Naim app can see and play them. I don't use Minim, but I think I'm right in saying that it will do the same. Maybe someone who uses it can confirm this?

The thing is, unless you run a NAIM server (UnitiServe or HDX) any playlist you create is 'virtual' within the Naim applicaiton. So I'm not too surprised it 'breakes' if the content of the server changes.

Could you try setting up a a playlist on your NAS instead and then accessing it from the NAIM app?

According to the Minimserver forum post that I mentioned above, I understand the developer of Minimserver, that he seemed to already prepared his software to be able to work with the Naim app playlists, if Naim would fix something on their side. Is this correct? So, Naim can fix this in their app?

Why should this be so? i can easily create playlists with ipeng.

My recommendation is to set a playlist on your UPnP server and use that.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem? e.g. by using another UPnP Server?

It would be nice if Naim fixes its App, if this is already fixed in Minimserver.

Do you back up your iOS device to a computer with iTunes? If so, you should be able to restore the app, with its settings and playlists, from the last iTunes backup, depending on how recent this is. Obviously it would be better if the app didn't break in the first place, but it might restore your lost playlists.

I use Minimserver. Although, I got the same problem with other UPnP servers as well.

The playlist always gets broken as from the moment I add an album and let Minimserver reindex.

Storing the playlist on my NAS indeed solves solves the problem (works after reindexing), but makes the playlist creation feature in the Naim app pretty useless ....  This is really pitty, as creating a playlist in the app is faster/more convenient then creating it manually and store in on my NAS.

I hope this get fixed.
