Wrong metadata on Unitiserve rips

Posted by: TN on 03 January 2016

I keep getting wrong metadata on the UServe rips.  The Userve is new - a replacement for a malfunctioning one.  But since I got it, the metadata for the rips is totally wrong.

Example:  I just ripped Lizz Wright -  Freedom & Surrender.  The album showed up on NServe as Artist:  Michail Bulgalow.  Title:  Der Meister und Margarita 07.

This is not the only example.  Ever since I got the new unit, the metadata from every rip is totally wrong.

When I checked in the DTC under "Lookup Messages," it says for this Lizz Wright album:  :"A better match for album "Michail Bulgalow - Der Meister und Margarita 07 was found, using Free DB local."

Never had this problem before.  How can this be fixed?

Is your US internet connection working properly? I'm guessing that it's not, so it can't access the AMG database to find the correct metadata.

The Free DB local is the very limited database inside the UnitiServe. As Chris says, it's not connecting to the Internet to look up the metadata. Does the manual provide instructions on that?

Clear the n-serve app cashe memory, switch the app off and restart it - this should synchronise the app data with the UnitiServe.

UnitiServe MUST be connected to an open internet conneciton for the metadata search to work properly. Out of more than 1000 CD's I've ripped, approximately 50 required my intervention - mostly to do with a genre allocation and perhaps 10 with incorrect artwork.

The Userve is connected to the internet.  I have ripped over 2000 CDs with the previous unit and only a few came up as Unknown Artist.  I'm suddenly having this problem with the replacement unit.

Is it an SSD version? I'm asking, since with an SSD you could try restoring it to factory settings (without a fear of erasing a hard-drive) and configuring again.

If the above fails, I would contact the NAIM support as there isn't much more you can do from a user configuration point of view.
Perhaps they can remotely access your system and check it that way - save you a trip to your dealer.

What happens if you do a manual CDDB lookup for an album?

Are you sure it's connected to the Internet? What you are getting is what happens when it isn't. You can set which databases it looks at, such as AMG - can you check they are enabled in the DTC?

That's why I suggested a 'back to factory settings' for TN....
