Led Zep hi res downloads
Posted by: JohnL on 08 January 2016
Hi all, help required for a computer dunce!. I've got a few Led Zep hi res downloads that I want to get onto my NDX. I have tried opening the hi res file and then create a new folder in my music library (QNAP 212, twonky, db Poweramp, Windows PCs). I then use the "export to" function in the download file. The file appears with all my ripped flac files and will play on my computer (via VCL). However, NStream does not see theses files. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?. Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers John
How often have you got your Twonky set to refresh ?
Are the LZ files saved in a directory which Twonky is monitoring?
In my initial setup I had to manually kick of the re-scan of Twonky, so perhaps you need to trigger that or wait or review if Twonky is scanning those specific folder. To be sure you can put the music in your music sub folder.
You can set the rescan of Twonky to what you want. If you set the rescan period to -1 it will automatically update every time you transfer a new album to your NAS.
Might sound a bit of a strange but have you checked for any unknown albums or artists, the tags might be missing (nothing to do with file/folder names). Checking for 'unknown' is a good indicator of bodged tags, these are d/ls after all! Plus use the 'naim' app, not nstream
Hi JohnL can you see Twonky displayed in the Naim app? (Press the UPnP button and the navigate back until you can see the servers). See picture. And can you see other music files on your NAS via Twonky?
on my QNAP all my music is in the Qmultimedia folder which is the default for music files I think.
if you can't work it out but want to hear the albums drop them onto a USB stick and insert into the front of the NDX while you think about how to stream them from the NAS?
Hi all, thanks for your replies, here's where I'm at: yes I can see twonky if I go back through the Naimaudio app menu. My twonky rescan is set at -1 and ripped CDs appear within a very short period of time. The files are in my main NAS library that twonky puts to my NDX via Naimaudio app (sorry I referred to it as nitre am, old habits die hard :-) . I have also done a manual rescan in twonky......all to no avail !!!!. Still can't see my hi red zep files. Any other thoughts anyone ??.......help !!!!!
Had a similar issue. Are they AIFF files by any chance?
We need to do some step testing;
- Load the album on a USB stick.
- plug the USB stick into the front USB input of your NDX and try to play them
- If NDX reads the files and plays them, displaying the name then all is well
- Remove the files from the server and load them on your laptop
- Edit the files on your computer, making sure that there are no spaces or dots, comas at the end of each track name
- Once edited, re-load them onto your NAS into a directory that you know your NDX 'reads'. Try playing from there.
Thinking back, I had a similar problem with a hi res file I downloaded in WAV format. I had to convert it to FLAC before Twonky could see it.
Adam and IanG make 2 very good points:
- what format are the LZ Hi Res files?
- if you put the files on a USB stick and plug into the NDX, can it read the files and play them? If not then you've found your problem.
Hi all, the files are WinRAR ZIP archive files (apparently !!!!). Going back to your first point Adam, when you open the files in downloads, the track titles do appear to have dots, dashes etc between the words in the track titles. What's the best way round this then?. Sorry to be a pain but I really am clueless on this stuff. Thanks for your help. John
Maybe you have to to delete the cash from the Naim-APP. This you can do under setzings, source, UPNP, delete cash. Then the APP refreshes its libory and you should find the hires lz.
You will need to extract the audio files (FLAC/WAV or whatever) from the zip files. You can do this using 7zip or Winrar on your PC.
Dots and dashes in the file names can be edited out. Just highlight the filename and press F2 on your computer keyboard will allow you to edit the filename.

- Extract the files to a folder
- If you have iTunes - Add Folder to Library
- Click on an individual track, right click > Get Info
- A window opens > you can edit the name of the track. This way not only the visible part of the track name changes, but also the metadata is changed
- Repeat for all tracks
- Once finished, put the folder on a memory stick and try to play them directly on your NDX, without loading to your NAS
- Please let me know how the above went
JohnL - feel free to email me directly - might be easier. Email is in my profile.
